New Volkite Weapon 40k Rules For Primaris Lieutenants
We already know that the Primaris Lieutenants we currently have access to can have a power sword or boltgun. However, Primaris Lieutenants in 9th Edition are looking to get a lot more deadly based on what we can see on-sprue. The Lieutenant isn’t sacrificing his power sword but is also carrying what looks to be a storm shield and a volkite heater.
For those of you who don’t know, volkite weaponry dates back to the Horus Heresy. In 30k, you’ll see whole squads dedicated to carrying volkite for its sheer amount of shots. It’s not got the best AP, but it has higher Strength and exploding hits. On top of that, seeing a character with a volkite pistol isn’t that uncommon in games. It’s just all-around good.
Looking at the first Primaris volkite weapon to hit 40k, it acts roughly the same way as it does in 30k. It’s got slightly higher Strength, no real AP, and 6’s explode. This is a decent weapon overall, but like anything, we’ll have to take a look at its points.
The bigger power spike is probably going to be from the shield. If that does give him a 3++ invuln, he’ll be able to hold an objective all on his own and tank blows from squads trying to bully him off with the new bonuses to defending terrain.
What do you think of the new Primaris Lieutenant’s wargear? Will you be running more than one in your list? Will he have to remain under 100pts to be competitive?
