GW Releases Surprise Forge World FAQ: 9th Edition 40k

GW dropped a surprise FAQ errata for all of their Forge World listings to tweak things to go along with 9th Edition 40k. Check this out.

Over on Warhammer Community’s FAQ page, Forge World got some new errata. It looks like they only switched around some keywording with the new 9th Edition lingo like “Engagement Range”, etc. We’ll be pulling out the highlights of the major changes but if you’ve got a lot of Forge World units in your collection you may want to dive into the specifics for each of your units.

GW Releases Surprise Forge World FAQ: 9th Edition 40k

Here is a break down of some of the most impactful changes to the units:

Relic Is Still a Thing (Unfortunately) But Heavy-Ignoring Abilities Removed

fw 9th faq 1With the Imperium listing, we can see that the Relic rule will still be a thing, which kind of sucks. It’s never fun having to put points into a battlefield slot just to take a “relic” unit, but hey, it must be all in the name of balance. On that note, since vehicles ignore Heavy now, they’ve had all rules like Power of the Machine Spirit, and other faction-equivalent rules removed.

Bigger Units Can Fall Back, Charge & Shoot in Engagement Range

fw 9th faq 2Using the Imperium’s bigger units like the Falchion, for example, they act a little bit more like a Knight now. They can fall back and charge in the same turn and even shoot their weapons while they’re within engagement range. This same change hit all factions. It just depends on which units have that rule for Xenos and Chaos.

Some Wargear Changed to Blast

fw 9th faq 3Depending on the weapon, wargear across all factions have had their weapon profiles updated to Blast as well.

Slight Rewording to Open-Topped Units & Embarked Shooting

fw 9th faq 4

fw 9th faq 12For open-topped units like the Repressor for the Sisters and all the Ork stuff, they changed some wording around still allowing them to shoot. However, you can only shoot with pistols if the vehicle ends up in engagement range with something.

FW Clarified Eligible Weapons for Grinding Advance

fw 9th faq 7This is a big one for Leman Russes. They still get Grinding Advance But FW also laid out the list of weapons that are eligible to benefit from it. Note that it’s JUST the turret weapon and you can only shoot at the same target both times.

Sniper Units Also Updated

fw 9th faq 9Finally, for the Forge World Datasheets that are Sniper units, they’ve updated the wording to get around the Look Out, Sir rule.

Blast Weapons & Aircraft Keywords Added Across Factions

Crimson Hunter Dark EldarFor each faction, Forge World also went through and updated wargear and units for Blast weapons and Aircraft keywords respectively. It’s a pretty tall list so take a look at each one below:

fw 9th faq 6Whew! That’s a lot to talk about but at least these changes are happening BEFORE the new Edition drops and people are left wondering how old rules interact with the new.

What do you think about these changes? Is it nice to see GW so proactive with their FAQs before 9th Edition drops?
