Flayed Ones are the Necron constructs that are inflicted with a terrible curse where they crave nothing more than the taste of flesh.
Who doesn’t love machines driven by a hunger for flesh? Well, we don’t in real life, but in 40k, why not! The Flayed Ones have been driven made for millennia and they just can’t help themselves. Let’s all do our best Edward Scissor Hands cosplay and learn about these insane machines!
Flayed One Lore – An Ancient Curse
As it turns out, the C’tan were not too happy with the way things went down… More than one curse was cast on the Necrontyr. This one though was put on them by the C’tan known as the Flayer. As he was being destroyed, his final act was to put the flayer curse on the Necron society. And can you blame him? For the Necrons didn’t simply splinter him like the other C’tan, they utterly destroyed him.
The curse tainted them for a thirst for what they cannot have, flesh. It didn’t manifest itself right away, however. Most Necrons were able to hold off the hunger with relative ease in the beginning and they kept traveling to other worlds. Because of this, they inflicted thousands of unwitting Necrons on dozens of worlds. Still, no one was the wiser for a really, really long time, but the long Millenia ate away at the psyche of many and soon the hunger became real.
A Need for Flesh
The curse is a painful experience, to say the least. It slowly eats away the psyche and drives the Necrons to revel in the flesh of their enemies. Despite being soulless and totally metallic, they collect all the skin and sinew from their enemies. They hang the flesh over their bodies as grisly trophies of what they can’t have. It doesn’t matter how much flesh they collect either. They are always driven for more, the hunger never subsides for what they can never have again!
Trophies aren’t all they desire either. They try to consume the flesh of their kills, but considering they are machines without stomachs, they don’t get very far. The Imperium has been on the wrong end of the nasty spectacle more than once… They gorge themselves to no end, as the hunger is ever-present and the flesh does nothing to quell it.
The Necrons use these machines as insane close-combat warriors. They send them forward into the enemy lines with reckless abandon. If they die, at least the other Crons won’t have to deal with the crazies anymore.
That does it for these accursed Necrons! Hopefully, they don’t visit a planet near you soon…
