willow-tv-seriesGet ready for the best George Lucas movie to come back to life as the Willow Series has been officially confirmed for Disney+ TV.

Outta the way Peck! If you didn’t yell that iconic line as an insult to your brother as a kid, well you really should have. But with the movie getting turned into a series on Disney+, you’ll get the chance to make up for childhood mistakes! If you’ve only heard of the movie and not watched it, drop everything, leave work, and go watch the original! It’s just that good, let’s be honest with ourselves.\

We have hope for the series as they are bringing back a ton of the original support staff. We hope this can live up to the high bar set by the movie, but with Warwick Davis returning as Willow Ufgood, how bad could it be? Here’s what we know about production so far.

Production Staff for the Willow Series

Willow SeriesDisney+ not only confirmed a few of the actors but a ton of the directorial staff and writers as well. The pilot episode will have Jon M. Chu at the helm as director, who has a deep love for the movie. Jonathan Kasdan (wrote Solo: A Star Wars Story) and Wendy Mericle (CW’s Arrow) will also be leading the show.

Wondering why they chose Jon Chu? He has a serious love for the movie and said it was super inspiring to him as a kid. Here’s his statement on it:

Growing up in the 80s, Willow has had a profound effect on me. The story of the bravest heroes in the least likely places allowed me, an Asian-American kid growing up in a Chinese restaurant looking to go to Hollywood, to believe in the power of our own will, determination, and of course, inner magic. So the fact that I get to work with my heroes from Kathleen Kennedy to Ron Howard is bigger than a dream-come-true. It’s a bucket-list moment for me. Jon Kasdan and Wendy Mericle have added such groundbreaking new characters and delightful surprises to this timeless story that I can’t wait for the world to come along on this epic journey with us.

Bringing back the Originals

MadmatiganWhile Ron Howard isn’t set to direct any of the episodes (that we know of yet) he is still involved with the project as an executive producer. The original writer Bob Dolman is also on board as a consulting producer. Of course, the best news is Warwick Davis reprising his role as Willow. No news on whether Madmartigan will be in the series or if Val Kilmer will be playing the role. But we can all hope to see him at least once!

Story Details

Willow Series 2We don’t know much as of yet… unfortunately. But it is set to take place a decent number of years after the original movie ended. They will be introducing a whole new host of characters and monsters to the fold. Other than that we know shooting will begin next year (please no COVID delays!) and will be shot in Wales.

Are you excited or super excited for the new series to start filming? Do you think it will do the original movie justice?
