How to Store Your Large Miniatures for Under $20!

Check out a smarter and cheaper way to store your LARGE miniatures safely for under $20 with items you can easily find at Amazon, Michaels, etc.

If you’ve been struggling with storing and keeping those larger minis safe, Rob has some pretty incredible tips for you! Not only will this keep your miniatures safe, but it’s also super easy to do and relatively cheap. Obviously, if you have a ton of giant minis, it will cost a little more, but this is the cheapest and easiest way we’ve found to do it.

He did a tutorial a while ago for smaller miniature storage solutions, but he scoured Amazon again and found even bigger versions of the cases for his taller models than the ones he used previously.

How to Store Large Miniatures for Under $20!

The CHUNGOS need storage too! While these cases are a touch more expensive than something from Walmart, Rob recommends using these because they are made for archival purposes (this means they are acid-free!) While it might not be a huge deal, we have seen some miniatures in the past tarnished and yellowed by bad cases, so it’s better to go a hair more expensive and not damage your collection.

The crate is tall enough for almost any model! The only one that came to Rob’s mind that would not fit is Archaon from the Age of Sigmar. Other than that, you will definitely be able to fit your big boys (and girls like Beetle Lady) inside the crate. Now, let’s see how to make the storage cases.

This is the smaller case, but the process is the same for big or small

Inside the crate is just a steel plate, double-sided tape, and duct tape on the very corners of the plate. If you put magnets on the bottom of the models, this plate will keep them all in place and protected from moving around and potentially breaking.

This project is really just a few steps:

Cut the steel plate to the size of your box
Tape down the steel plate on the bottom of the case using double-sided tape.
Tape the very corners of the plate with duct tape to keep them down.
Magnetize your bases for small minis. Rob used a sheet of refrigerator magnets for smaller models and cut the sheet to a slightly smaller size than the base (or you can use the pre-cut Squad Marks ones). For bigger models, he uses 5/16 x 1/16 magnets. Depending on the model’s size, you might need a few around the base.
Put the minis in and close the lid!

This is what the bases of your large miniatures will look like, and you can see the one magnet in there for extra strength. This cast is for moving larger miniatures to and from your local game store and keeping them safe. However, if you’re going long distances, you may need a beefier case.

The crate is fairly large and can fit 4-6 or the large Greater Daemon or even Daemon Primarch-sized models with about 10-1/2″ of clearance. Pretty awesome!
