Disney Announces 10 New Star Wars Shows & a Movie!

10-new-shows-start-wars-disney-mandolorianStar Wars keeps on keeping on with a mix of 10 new shows & even a movie coming soon from Disney! Let’s check it out.

At Disney Investor Day 2020, there were a large number of announcements for the company but the largest for us has to be those around Star Wars. With a huge diversity of time frames, directors, and even styles like animation or real-world, there’s bound to be something for each one of us.

This is the official playlist with all of the trailers, but we will be going over just the Star Wars portions. Including some announcements on their Twitter.

Disney Announces 10 New Star Wars Shows & a Movie!

Ahsoka (Spin-off Series)

ahsoka show announcedThe Ahsoka spin-off will star the same Rosario Dawson, from the Mandolorian, set in the same time period as the Mandolorian. It will of course be on Disney plus, however, there is no date or time period for release yet. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled on this if you are interested.

Obi-Wan Kenobi (Spin-off Series)

Collectively this new has been floating around for quite some time now. We’ve known that Ewan McGregor was returning to play Kenobi, however, the new addition to it is that Hayden Christensen is also returning to play Darth Vader! The show takes place 10 years after Episode III. Once again arriving at Disney Plus.

Andor (Rogue One Spin-off Series)

There isn’t much we know about this series other than it’s a Rogue One spin-off, and that Diego Luna is playing the main role. This is one of few with a release time frame of 2022.

The Bad Batch (Clone Wars Spin-off Series)

This animated series takes place after the events of The Clone Wars and features the group of clones known as “The Bad Batch”. These guys are pretty awesome, they are essentially a group of Commandos, with independent attitudes and straight to the point methods.

Rangers of the New Republic (Spin-off Series)

rangers of the new republicNext to nothing is known about this series other than it takes place in the same time period as the Mandolorian, and that Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni are going to be the executive producers. Hopefully, more info comes out about this one before too long.

Lando (Spin-off Series)

This series is still in very early development, there isn’t even a logo yet. We do know that Justin Simien is working on developing the early stages of the project. So as far as dates go this one is pretty far out. However, if you saw Solo: A Star Wars Story, you may remember Donald Glover playing Lando in that film, which means he may return here as well.

Star Wars: Visions (Short Film Series)

Star wars visionsAlthough the info tidbit is that “world’s best Japanese anime creators” will be making it, and it has a planned 2021 release, there isn’t much else to go off of. We don’t know the topic matter or time frame. We technically don’t know the style either, although we might assume it is in fact anime due to the choice of creators.

The Acolyte (Spin-off Series)

high republicSupposedly this will be a mystery-thriller exploring secrets and emerging dark side powers. It will take place during the end of the High Republic Era. Leslye Headland will be leading the effort. There is also no date or time period set for this release either. If you don’t know much about the High Republic era, there have been recent books published about it.

A Droid Story (Spin-off Film)

r2 and c3poFor this film, Lucasfilm Animation and Industrial Light & Magic (Mandalorian’s Visual effects team) are working together to make a new film. Supposedly R2-D2 and C-3PO are going to lead a new Hero through the adventure in the film. There is no current time frame for release.

Untitled Feature Film

The pretty renowned filmmaker Taika Waititi is working on a new unannounced Star Wars film! He was the director of other movies like Thor Ragnarok and Jojo Rabbit. He has earned himself & his teams multiple awards and could do a great job with Star Wars as well!

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron (Spin-off Film)

Patty Jenkins is another great director, who recently directed both the Wonder Woman movies. She seems super excited and has a personal connection to the fighter pilot’s aesthetic and emotion. If you played either of the video games, then you might love this movie too. Hopefully, her excitement translates into a great dogfight film. (there isn’t a release window set for this yet)

Are you going to be watching for news about these films and series? Are you excited to experience more aspects of the Star Wars universe?
