Let’s learn how to play Ogor Mawtribes at 2000 Points and bring the Christmas Battleforces to full armies. Let’s do it!
The air is getting cooler, snowflakes are starting to sprinkle the ground, and GW has released its annual Christmas battle boxes for 40k and AoS. There are 4 being released this time around for AoS the Ogor Mawtribes, Disciples of Tzeentch, Gloomspite Gitz, and Kharadron Overlords.
These are always good value for money though may not contain the most competitive models for an army. Let’s take a look at the Ogors and the Gitz this week and see how we can cheaply take the battle box and bring it to 2000 points. and then some notes on how to play Ogor Mawtribes at 2000 Points.
AoS Christmas Bundles: Ogor Mawtribes
Ogor Mawtribes is first on the list and I really like this army as it has a lot going for it packed into this box. Given they are not the Beastclaw raiders that seem to consistently dominate the meta, these can still hold their own against most opponents. Starting with the battle box we have:
- Gargaunt: 160 Points: Behemoth 1 of 4 (Ally)
- Ogor Mawtribe Tyrant: 160 Points: Leader 1 of 6: General
- 4 Ironbelchers: 160 Points: Battleline 1 of 3 Required
- 4 Ironguts: 220 Points: Battleline 2 of 3 Required
- 1 Ironblaster: 120 Points: Artillery 1 of 4
- 12 Ogor Gluttons: 400 Points: Battleline 3 of 3 Required
Total Points: 1220
This is a sweet deal in terms of starting an army in what you get. You check all three battlelines, get your general model, and get a sweet ally as well. If you want to see how much value you get in the box, check it out here.
How to Play Ogor Mawtribes at 2000 Points
Building onto this list is pretty easy in that the first thing you should do is get your Ogor Mawpot (have to have it). And then a butcher to use it which is going to set you back $80. After that, your best bet is to round out your Ironguts with 8 more of them for $80. Then 4 more Ironbelchers for another $40. So your final army will look something like this.

- Ogor Mawtribe Tyrant: 160 Points: Leader 1 of 6: General
- 8 Ironbelchers: 160 Points: Battleline 1 of 3 Required
- 12 Ironguts: 220 Points: Battleline 2 of 3 Required
- 1 Ironblaster: 120 Points: Artillery 1 of 4
- 12 Ogor Gluttons: 400 Points: Battleline 3 of 3 Required
- Ogor Mawpot: 0 Points: Terrain
- Butcher: 140 Points: Leader 2 of 6
Total Points: 1960
It’s not the most expensive army but it is not the cheapest by any means either. Your Ironguts will be the hammer in this army while the Gluttons will be your anvil. They should be able to make for fun games and keep you in most battles if you play the objectives correctly. Though they won’t have much magic defense and if your heroes get sniped you might be in trouble.
AoS Christmas Bundles: Gloomspite Gitz
We are going to look at the other Destruction battle box now, the Gloomspite Gitz. This one is interesting in that it mixes the goblins and trolls together and usually you need to kind of go one way or another with this force. The trolls are some of my favorite models and if you are looking for an all-around collection of these guys this could be a great buy for you.

Total: 910 Points
The First Points Jump
So you have almost half your army and you are sort of faced with a choice here. To choose if you want to go towards more Squigs and make the Loon Boss your general and go with more Squigs. Or if you want to make the Troggboss your general and use the Rockguts as Battleline. For me, I am going to go with the Troggboss because I can then easily add a start collecting box to get this army where it needs to be and to make it tournament legal. By adding that and the Gloomspite Shrine (free terrain) which you must have, you’re adding another $150 to the army.

- 12 Squig Herd: 140 Point
- Bad Moon Loonshrine: 0 Points: Terrain
Total Points: 1120
Taking it to 2,000
We have a ways to go, and we might as well fill out those leader positions with a couple of unique characters and an extra wizard. These guys are also on the cheaper side of things so that will help with the pocketbook a bit. First, we will add Zarbag and Mollog from the Warhammer Underworlds armies to bring in another hard-hitting troll and a wizard to help out with unbinding and casting. Both are very cool models and at a very reasonably $25 each.
Then will round out our leaders with Skragrott the Loon King who adds 2 more spells and unbind rolls and it also a very reasonable $36 (plus a very cool model). Finally, I would add 2 more units of Fellwater Troggoths to your army and combine two of the Rockgut Troggoths units to add some variety to the battle lines. These are $45 for 3 which is a little expensive but they have been around for a while so you might be able to find some in trade or online. Your final army will look something like this.

Final Thoughts on the AoS Christmas Bundles
Troggoths are not the most competitive but they are some of the coolest models in this army, what is also pretty neat is if you wanted to you could make the general a Loonboss and run your goblins as battle lines as well if you wanted to go in that direction. Either way, the models are sweet and the price point isn’t terrible, but the terrain piece is one of the nicest GW has made.
