Today we take a look at an amazingly painted Emperor’s Children Army by Castle Brush which is just stunning!
The artistic team at Castle Brush is pumping out some amazing-looking projects for the worldwide hobby community. This level of painting is extremely crisp and it lets you get an entire army on the field quickly. Sometimes we just don’t have time to paint, let Castle Brush do it for you!
Today, we’ll let them tell you a little more about the journey of completing this awesome project!
Emperor’s Children Army by Castle Brush
What a pleasure this was to prepare and paint our very first CSM project (don’t mind the Death Guard, they have their own codex), and on top of that they are the Sons of Fulgrim!!!
The whole commission consisted of a whopping of 65 miniatures. Most of those were several Troops and Elite squads, some characters, a Dreadnought, and a Primarch! Several pieces received some extra services, like weapon magnetization, conversions, and even a freehand in one instance. Bases resemble northern wasteland, full of jagged rocks, covered in snow, with some hints that battles took place in this desolate place – skulls of combatants sticking out from snow…
Cultists
30 cultists; 26x autopistol/brutal assault weapon, 3x flamer, 1x Champion with either shotgun/cultist knife or autopistol/brutal assault weapon in form of a chainsword.
Cultists received the ‘Champion’ quality paint job. And Champion received arms magnetization, so she could be used in different game formats. Some cultist’s close combat weapons were swapped to produce a bit more diversity among them.
Noise Marines
20 Noise Marines; Two 10-man squads, each with Champion, two Blastmasters, and an Icon of Excess. Marines & Champion armed with Sonic Blasters, furthermore Champions received Doom Siren backpacks.
This is a wonderful comparison of how the older CSM sculpts work with the new, 2019 ones – among both squads (one using older armor, the other new kit) we used old CSM helmets, Noise Marines – specific heads, and of course ‘classic’ Noise Marine weapons. New kits proved a bit difficult to match the old weapons, but everything is possible with a sharp knife and a bit of greenstuff. Most of the Marines received the ‘Champion’ quality paint job, while Noise Champions are examples of our higher, ‘Overlord’ quality.
Havocs
10 Havocs – Two squads, 1st with 4x Reaper Chaincannons, 2nd with 4x Lascannon. Each led by Aspiring Champion with Plasma Gun and Power Sword.
The hottest guns on the tabletop – both Reaper Chaincannons and Lascannons are probably the best options possible for Havocs. With this in mind, each squad picked 4 of each weapon. Standard Havocs were painted on ‘Champion’ quality level, while their respective Aspiring Champions received additional Slaaneshi treatment in form of Legion-specific upgrade items, and ‘Overlord’ quality paint job.
Noise Marine Special Characters
Two Noise Marine special characters – the special guitar version!
Those two players received the ‘Overlord’ quality paint job. One was supposed to be painted in the same scheme as on the box, while the other was supposed to be the opposite. we were told to swap the colors between the elements, and the final result is purely awesome!
Lord Commander Eidolon of the Emperor’s Children
We swapped the archeotech gun for combi-melta and kept his helmet on. Creating a very special Spikey Smash Captain. Apart from this, the scheme was changed to match the 40k Emperor’s Children colors, and his cloak received additional, Legion-style freehand. A perfect finish for a perfect commander. Lord Commander Eidolon is an example of our ‘Overlord’ quality paint job.
Fulgrim, Primarch of the Emperor’s Children
The Phoenician himself returned to lead his Sons again… The centerpiece of the entire commission. Fulgrim received ‘Overlord’ level treatment; painted in his original scheme intact, this was our first Primarch miniature we were able to paint – and he just had to be perfect!
It is worth noting that both his and Eidolon’s bases were magnetized, so they could be used both on their gaming and display bases.
Sonic Dreadnought
A rare sight these days, Sonic Dreadnought received right weapon magnetization (Sonic Blaster arm as Double Blastmaster/ Twin-linked Lascannon) and his left arm was converted with Hellbrute Thunder Hammer, resembling ongoing mutation of the venerable ancient. Dreadnought received our ‘Overlord’ quality paint job. If it weren’t for Fulgrim, this piece will easily be the centerpiece just for how nostalgic it is!
