Magnus & Morty Are Back 40k Army List: Red River GT

40k-homebrew-army-listsAnother off-meta 40k army list emerged in the Red River GT Tournament featuring Magnus and Morty!

9th Edition’s meta is still settling, but some players are taking lists with units that nobody was expecting. Check out this awesome homebrew list that emerged in a tournament over the weekend. They didn’t do too bad and just goes to show that sometimes it’s more about the general’s skill than what you play.

Red River GT: Daniel Sansone- Chaos

Daniel went for a battalion led by a Great Unclean One and a Lord of Change, providing huge bodies and psychic support. 10 total nurglings add for cheap really durable bodies that can bog up enemy lines while your damage dealers get to work.

red river chaos 230 Plaguebearers round out Troops giving more bodies to push up the board and eat up wounds long enough for the main course to chew through the enemy’s main threats.

The main course is of course a Mangus and Mortarion combo! Mortarion’s new update didn’t hurt this strategy too much, so it is kind of surprising this list isn’t still popular. He is still a giant threat that pumps out a ton of damage every turn if not focused.

Magnus is similar however he mostly supports Mortarion as the main damage threat until he inevitably dies. After that Magnus is still a great solo model that can do plenty of damage, not to mention being one of the best psykers in the game.

Daniel went for an old-school list that was popular last edition and this is one of the first times it has re-emerged in 9th edition.

Overall this list offers a little bit of a different approach but we like it because of their all-in on an aspect of their faction in a response to the meta.

Even better they got great results from the player who piloted it! It’s also very encouraging when a player is able to play a widely considered “underpowered” army or list style so effectively.
