Another off-meta 40k army list emerged in the Onslaught GT 2021 Tournament, check this one out!
9th Edition’s meta is still settling, but some players are taking lists with units that nobody was expecting. Check out this awesome homebrew list that emerged in a tournament over the weekend. They didn’t do too bad and just goes to show that sometimes it’s more about the general’s skill than what you play.
Top Homebrew 40k Army List: Onslaught GT 2021
Thanks to Best Coast Pairings we are able to look back at the event as if we were there ourselves.
Onslaught GT 2021: Bryan Malpass- Tzeentch
Starting with a battalion of Tzeentch Daemons he has it led by 2 Changecasters and The Changeling. The Changecasters add strength to nearby Tzeentch units and have a bonus to their smites, making them pretty beneficial for only 85 pts apiece. The Changeling on the other hand gives nearby units a 6 up FNP, making the list overall more durable.
For Troops, there are a total of 70 Pink Horrors which serve as a ton of models that can muck up the board and even have a chance to get in some decent damage. His Elites are 7 Flamers which can act as decent close-range units, the flamers ranged strength is the unit’s strength, meaning the Changecasters improve the Flamers’ ranged weapons! Lastly, for Fast Attacks, there are 5 Furies, which can just roam to a lone objective and sit on it for the low-low cost of 45 pts.
However, there are two more detachments!
The first patrol of Thousand Sons is led by Ahriman and Sorceror in Terminator armor. Ahriman gives rerolls to nearby Thousand Sons, while also being a fantastic psyker. The Sorcerer serves as another source of psychic powers, while also being fairly durable in the Terminator armor. The Rubric Marines can then take advantage of Ahrimans re-rolls.
The second patrol of Thousand Sons is led by another Sorceror in Terminator armor and Daemon Prince of Tzeentch. The Daemon Prince serves as more Psychic powers and a pretty dang good melee character when pitted against the right targets. Similar to the first patrol, there are also more Rubric Marines and the durable Sorcerer in Terminator armor.
Overall this list offers a little bit of a different approach but we like it because of their all-in on an aspect of their faction in a response to the meta.
Even better they got decent results from the player who piloted it! It’s also very encouraging when a player is able to play a widely considered “underpowered” army or list style so effectively.
What do you think about this homebrew 40k army list from last weekend that caught our eye?
