Orruk Gore-gruntas are the Armoured Orruk Spearhead

If you love Orruks, it’s hard not to be a fan of the Gore-gruntas. They are giant, they ride massive massive beasts, and just destroy everything they touch. So yeah, they’re about as Orky as you can get! Get out your favorite boar friend and let’s learn about some lore!

In the World

Gore-GruntasThe Orruks of the Ironjawz are known for their heavy plated armor and hard-hitting weapons. Their powerful shock cavalry is no exception. Riding on top of mighty boar-like mounts called Gruntas, these wicked riders will charge into battle in a tidal wave of clanking metals and muscle.

Rusty choppas and a mob of hooves and teeth will tear through any foe dumb enough not to flee. Although even those fleeing are trampled under the horde. The riders and mounts together are known as the Gore-Gruntas. Shock units of the Ironjaws to break and stun the enemy before the rest of the green tide descends upon them.

Unlike normal boars of similar mounts, Gruntas aren’t actually tamed by their Orruk riders. The Gruntas are far too independent and foul-tempered to be bested in the normal ways. Ironjawz warclans are known for their ‘grunt hunts’ on plains where the Gruntas are known to live. Where they stalk and hunt for these great beasts, trying to corner one.

Once they have one trapped they quickly get to work hammering and bolting pieces of iron armour onto the beast. Showing that this Grunta belongs to their clan and also making them slow enough to be mounted and ride them into battle.

Considering Gruntas are already very hostile and dangerous by nature, often leaving a trail of destruction in their wake before being “tamed”. The combined fury of a Ironjawz Orruk rider and a Grunta mount are horrific and destructive even by the standards set by the Ironjawz themselves.

Sharp tusks and iron choppas easily stab into any shield clad line and cause a mini massacre with gore and iron flying all around. Anyone not lucky enough to die that instant is instead trampled by the Gruntas’ hooves. Afterwards the Gruntas feast on whatever they can find, iron swords, bodies or the odd poor Orruk, they pick the battlefield clean with their appetite.

On the Field

Gore-Gruntas 2On the Tabletop of the Mortal Realms, Gore-gruntas are a powerful Battleline option for any Ironjawz or Big Waaagh! army. Their high wound count and fast movement make sure the Gore-gruntas can be thrown into the thick of the battle. These shock cavalry will keep your opponent busy while the rest of the green tide gets to work. They clock in at 160 points per 3 models to a maximum of 12 models per unit. Thus you’re able to field a good mob of these powerful riders.

The Gore-Gruntas are more than just hulking masses of iron and muscle. They also pack a hell of an offensive punch. The riders can be equipped with either Pig-iron Choppas or Jagged Gore-hackas.

The former deals 4 strong attacks while the latter trades that off for extra range. Both are solid options for the battlefield. Of course the Gruntas themselves are also able to deal some hefty damage. Their Tusks and Hooves also deal a lot of attacks but are far less powerful than the weapons of the riders.

The leader of a pack of Gore-gruntas is known as the Gore-grunta Boss. The boss’ experience and even greater fury allow him to do an extra melee attack. The most deadly ability the Gore-gruntas possess is their Gore-grunta Charge ability.

After charging you roll a dice for every enemy unit within 1″ of the unit. On a 4+ the enemy unit suffers a mortal wound. This ability is deadly against already weakened enemies your cavalry decides to charge into. Furthermore, you add 1 to the hit and wound rolls for attacks made with Jagged Gore-hackas and the Tusks and Hooves if the unit made a charge.

These powerful beast riders are sure to cause chaos on the battlefields.
