Spawn has always been a huge power in the Comic Book world, and now King Spawn #1 has broken another record!
Recently Mcfarlane announced a revitalization and new project for Spawn. This involves a new Universe centered around the icon. One of the new books is King Spawn #1 marking the start of a monthly release schedule, and its’ preorders have shattered expectations and is now the largest pre-order for a monthly issue in the comic book industry over the past 25 years.
King Spawn #1 Smashes Previous Pre-order Records
As reported by the publisher, Image Comics has sounded the trumpets for the success of this new title.
Total pre-orders of 497K are bigger than any Marvel new monthly superhero launch, including Ironman, Hulk, Thor, or Captain America issue in the past quarter-century. McFarlane’s King Spawn #1 also topped any DC Comics new monthly title launch for the past two and a half decades, including Batman, Superman, Flash, or Wonder Woman.
No Avengers or Justice League character has debuted a monthly book with sales numbers like King Spawn #1 in the 21st century.
This not only marks a huge success for Spawn and McFarlane but also for Comic Books in general! As the industry grows so does competition and quality for consumers!
The Spawn character was first introduced in 1992, with the release of Spawn #1, to a record of 1.7 million copies that still stands today as the highest-selling, creator-owned comic issue of all time.
Further, it is also the longest-running creator-owned series after it passed issue 301 in 2019. McFarlane has said on many occasions he hopes his success with Spawn inspires more independents to get their work out there and try to test their talents, even if it’s without the help of the big companies like DC or Marvel.
