New Dormammu Rules Muscle into Marvel Crisis Protocol

By Travis Pasch | August 3rd, 2021 | Categories: Marvel, Marvel Crisis Protocol, News & Rumors

If you want some serious muscle in your forces, the new Marvel Crisis Protocol Dormammu rules are right up your alley!

We’ve been seeing previews for the new mini for a while now, but Dormammu looks to be coming soon! If they start posting the full cards and rules, you know it can’t be that far away. September looks like the earliest time for release at this point, but that’s still not very far away.

His rules are quite crazy and he actually is the most expensive base pointed model yet along with the highest Stamina. Since he is 8 threat, he might be a hard squeeze to fit more established models into this affiliation, but he should be super fun to play with regardless

This comes from Atomic Mass Games and we love that they are starting to do more rules previews like this.

Let’s jump into the stats:

Marvel Crisis Protocol Dormammu Rules Preview

Dormammu cardsNow, Dormammu doesn’t play nice with others. He views other beings as pawns in his grand design, as evidenced by the new leadership ability Flames of the Faltine. This extraordinary leadership is for the Dark Dimension affiliation, shorthand for “Dormammu and the people he bosses around.” Any squad that includes Dormammu becomes a part of the affiliation and must use his leadership, which grants 1 extra Power in the Power Up phase. Dormammu cares little for the wellbeing of others, though, and the power he offers can exceed a mortal’s ability to bear it, so any other allied character who has 6 or more Power during the phase takes 1 damage.

The leadership rule gives some interesting possibilities to build your list around Mercs, but they still must be tied to Dark Dimension characters. With him coming in at 8 threat, it’s going to be hard to fit much else outside his faction in there and still keep affiliation, but what else do you even need?

Dread Dormammu

Dormammu cards 2Dread Dormammu has two potent attacks. His primary attack, Shadow Bolt, draws on powers of darkness to damage his foes, curse them, and drain their energy thanks to the Hex and Sap Power special rules. But his real heavy hitter is the Incantation of Obliteration attack, a mystic attack that costs him 5 Power and hits at Strength 8. But this is Dormammu we’re talking about. It isn’t going to be that simple. The Dark Miasma special rule lets him target another character within Range 2 of his initial target with another Incantation of Obliteration for free, as the substance of the Dark Dimension seeps into the world to punish his foes.

With him being such a high Threat, you have to expect his attacks will hit super hard. His obliteration attack is actually pretty crazy because it hits at Strength 8, then gets to target another character for free! Plus, with Master of the Realm of Darkness, he’ll be pretty hard to kill. He’s mobile, hard to kill, and has plenty of wild attacks.

So even though he’ll be a hard fit for a lot of other characters (with Baron Mordo we assume to be in the same faction at 3 threat), he’ll be worth it himself
