Top Warhammer 40k Army Lists: Iowaaagh! Open

Top-3-army-lists-40k-wal-horThe Iowaaagh! Open happened over the weekend with some pretty sweet army lists making it out towards the top!

The tournament is over and now we’re able to look at which lists managed to secure a place at the top! Check out what the winners brought in their armies.

Again this week we decided to grab our 3 favorite lists because the actual top was mostly Ad Mech and Dark Eldar lists we’ve seen plenty of times before.

Britton went for two detachments with the first being a Vanguard led by Azrael, who is a fantastic solo combatant with some helpful buffs like a reroll aura and a targetted re-roll buff for a unit.

Next Elites bring a whopping 9 Bladeguard Veterans, which everyone knows are good for their points, but usually only take 3-6. A Ravenwing Apothecary offers some bonus healing each turn along with mobility. While a Terminator squad running Hammers, Shields and some with claws offers a massive melee threat that can wipe out entire units if not dealt with at range.

The first detachment finishes up with 2 more Terminator squads that are identical, making for a detachment packs to the absolute brim with punishing melee threats.

The second detachment is led by a Ravenwing Talonmaster who has a reroll aura for wounds, making for a great pairing with Azrael’s hit re-roll aura from the first detachment. Elites start off with 3 Command Squads bringing a total of 3 Hammer/shields and 3 double claws, once again bringing some durable units that can heavily punish units in melee.

Then we see the first ranges emphasis in the list via 2 Relic Contemptor Dreads with Twin Volkite Culverins. This lets them dish out an impressive 32 shots each turn between the two of them for a potential of 64 damage! They don’t have ap, however, so targeting decisions will be important to get the most out of these weapons.

Finally, there is an Eliminator squad, which can help snipe out important characters and just cause headaches for your opponents.

What do you think about all three of these most recent lists? Do you like seeing less played chapters do well?
