Latest Warhammer+ Plus Update is a Bad Look

Warhammer + plus announcementThe latest Warhammer Plus update makes it seem like they might already be running out of gas after a rocky start.

The most recent update has left a lot of hobbyists wondering about the integrity of the offer, and what to actually expect every week. It was only a couple of weeks ago that GW walked back the release schedule for Warhammer+, where they said instead of new content every Wednesday, it will now be new content most Wednesdays.

Then just one month after launch, they released the first new schedule without any animations at all, and the internet for sure noticed.

warhammer+ launch

Meaning if that’s why you are paying, it could be a rough week. Or maybe two? Who knows at this point when more animations will hit now.

It just feels like they may already be on the verge of running out of animation already and are now rationing it to bridge a potential content gap. Plus the fact when they offered the discount voucher for the end of October, to some it seems like GW just dangled free Warhammer minis in hobbyists’ faces to even get this service accepted in the first place.

Sure Warhammer plus does have value with the 40k app, the bat reps, and hobby tutorials, the free mini (if you want to wait a year), etc… We just wish they would go about it differently, and actually be transparent about what’s happening to a platform that has essentially become a beta launch that is constantly changing what you’re getting and when you will be getting it!

Latest Warhammer+ Plus Update Is Mad Scummy

Warhammer PlusWhen you look at the schedule above, what’s the main thing you see missing? Any animations of course. So while some new stuff is getting added to the platform (WDs, Bat Reps, and more), the animations seem to have been the main draw for most people- including GW’s own promos.

Angels of Death logoWe would rather them just tell us the truth from the get-go that they don’t really have enough content created. Instead of acting like it’s all guns blazing when in reality, that just never seems to be the truth for any of their in-house developed assets. That’s the main issue most hobbyists and viewers seem to have with the company in general, they just act like everything is peachy and never mention anything when it goes wrong until it’s mushroomed into an issue.

By then it always seems to just be a “band-aid” fix just to save face, but not really fix the systemic issues that in essence seem to be that Games Workshop’s ideas are bigger than their ability to deliver.

So we as a community just get constantly blindsided by bad releases, allocations, paywalls, FOMO, and GW doubletalk.

Let’s look at how they have changed the wording in their FAQ to make this week’s “content” drop possible.

The Silent FAQ Change

Warhammer+ new contentThis is the big change right here from the Warhammer+ FAQ. They originally said content would be added every week, now it says it will be most Wednesdays.

We might be looking into this too much. But it gives them some leeway when it actually comes to adding content. Especially since there is already clearly an issue with the animations…

Yes, they did offer content for sure, but no it’s not the animations that they have been so hot and heavy on from day one.

AoS App BetaDon’t forget they promised the AoS app would be ready but it’s still very much in Beta (sound familiar 40k players?). Basically, everything Games Workshop does seems to just stay on the same rocky path they started with and limp on until enough customers bail on the offering that they finally that project to bed…

For now, at least, it looks like smoothly paved roads of glorious content and working army builders may be quite a ways off. So while we hope GW can get their Warhammer Plus offering back on track and provide the continued value that makes it worth a monthly sub, we have already voted with our hobby dollars until things get worked out a bit more…
