Top Homebrew 40k Army List: Battle Shock RTT

40k-homebrew-army-listsAnother off-meta Warhammer 9th Edition 40k army list emerged in the Battle Shock: A Gathering of Warriors RTT, check this one out!

9th Edition’s meta is again in flux, but some players are taking lists with units that nobody was expecting. Check out this awesome homebrew list that emerged in a tournament over the weekend. They didn’t do too bad and just goes to show that sometimes it’s more about the general’s skill than what you play.

Unfortunately, we were not able to locate the tournament details, but they seem relatively standard when examining the results and list.

Battle Shock RTT: Matthew Whaite – Tyranids

Matthew went for two detachments of Hive Fleet Kraken. The first is a battalion led by a Broodlord and The Swarmlord. The Broodlord adds 1 to hit rolls for nearby units in the fight phase, making it a great melee lord. Swarmlord adds some psychic support to the list and provides a double move to a unit each turn. It also just happens to be a machine in melee.

Troops bring in 33 Genestealers for plenty of units and 3 Ripper Swarms to take advantage of the bonus to hit rolls from the brood lord.  70 Termagaunts provide a huge volume of bodies and in turn volume of shots.

The Patrol is led by a Neurothrope for psychic support. While troops bring in 41 Termagants for more volume of shots, and camp-a-bility. Elites bring 6 Hive Guard for some heavy-hitting ranged attacks, while a Lictor provides a cheap unit to round out points and a sneaky deep striker your opponent might forget about.

Finishing the list is an Exocrine, which has decent ranged attacks and can blow up if it and hurt its assailants if in melee.

Overall this list offers an older approach, but we like it because of their all-in on an aspect of their faction in a response to the meta.

Even better they got decent results (finishing top 10) from the player who piloted it! It’s also very encouraging when a player is able to play a previously widely considered “underpowered” army or list style so effectively.

What do you think about this homebrew 40k army list from last weekend that caught our eye?
