Top Homebrew 40k Army List: WarGamesCon Tournament

40k-homebrew-army-listsAnother off-meta Warhammer 9th Edition 40k army list emerged in the WarGamesCon Tournament, check this one out!

9th Edition’s meta is again in flux, but some players are taking lists with units that nobody was expecting. Check out this awesome homebrew list that emerged in a tournament over the weekend. They actually got 1st place! This just goes to show us that sometimes it’s more about the general’s skill than what you play.

WarGamesCon Tournament: Wyatt Turk – Chaos Space Marines

Wyatt’s list went for a more unique route taking Iron Warrior Chaos Space Marines. His Battalion Detachment is led by a Lord Discordant who is a great combatant and buffs nearby daemon engines. The other HQ is a Master of Possessions, who gains access to unique psychic powers to help buff daemon engines.

Troops bring in 10 base Chaos Space Marines and 10 Chaos Cultists, which can just serve as extra bodies to sit on objectives.

His first detachment also brings in 2 Decimators with Soulburner Petards, which makes them pretty good at chaff clearing without much investment. Since they are Daemon Engines they also gain the benefits from the Master of Possession’s psychic powers if they are targetted. There are also 5 Terminators all running Combi-bolters and a melee weapon, making them pretty flexible in any situation.

The spice of this list comes in next with not one, but two Lord of Skulls! The Gattling cannon provides very long-range high strength shots every turn, while the Ichor cannon has the benefit of being a blast weapon and higher AP. Not to mention these can actually do fairly well in melee thanks to the giant cleaver. With the Lord Discordant nearby, all of these attacks will be hitting on 2s, making them threats to be taken seriously. if they survive they will lay down the hurt, no matter if at the range or in melee.

Overall this list offers an older approach, but we like it because of their all-in on an aspect of their faction in a response to the meta.

Even better they got decent results (finishing 1st!) from the player who piloted it! It’s also very encouraging when a player is able to play a previously widely considered “underpowered” army or list style so effectively.

What do you think about this homebrew 40k army list from last weekend that caught our eye?
