Another off-meta Warhammer 9th Edition 40k army list emerged in the Goonhammer Open UK, check this one out!
9th Edition’s meta is again in flux, but some players are taking lists with units that nobody was expecting. Check out this awesome homebrew list that emerged in a tournament over the weekend. This just goes to show us that sometimes it’s more about the general’s skill than what you play.

Goonhammer Open UK: Ben Allen – Harlequins
Ben goes for a simple approach with an entire list consisting of only three different unit choices! First, he starts with a Battalion led by 2 Troupe Masters who allow for full wound re-rolls in the Fight phase!
This is a huge boon after your bodies eventually crash into the enemy lines. Next up there are Troops…
Troops in the first detachment contain a total of 6 Troupe Squads for 30 bodies! Harlequins have power in numbers, and thanks to the entire list having 4+ invuln saves, AP on enemy weapons mean nothing! It’s always going to be a 50-50 and that means a lot of your troops are likely to make it in. Especially thanks to a Harlequin specialty that’s coming up next…
Dedicated Transports bring in 6 Starweavers, each being able to carry 6 bodies, which means this entire detachment has the luxury of transportation and a 6 wound shield before they can even be targetted! Not to mention 16″ move on this large portion of a list is a big deal, helping you make sure you always get to choose your fights where and when.
The second Detachment is a patrol led by, you guessed it, a third Troupe Master! Followed by 3 more Troupe squads for a total of 15 bodies. Finally, the list is finished by 3 Starweavers, placing the entire list in them, making them extremely mobile are hard to take down.
Ben’s list isn’t complicated or unknown, in fact, it does exactly what Harlequins are known to do! Take a bunch of transports and load ’em up! However, it helps remind us that sometimes simplicity isn’t always a bad thing.
Going all-in on your strengths and keeping things simple might just help you win more games! Of course, complex lists have their own positives too.
