Another off-meta Warhammer 9th Edition 40k army list emerged in the Mid-MO Maelstrom, check this one out!
9th Edition’s meta is again in flux, but some players are taking lists with units that nobody was expecting. Check out this awesome homebrew list that emerged in a tournament over the weekend. This just goes to show us that sometimes it’s more about the general’s skill than what you play.
Top Homebrew 40k Army List: Mid-MO Maelstrom
Thanks to Best Coast Pairings we are able to look back at the event as if we were there ourselves. You can check out the details for the event here.
If you wanted to see the names and factions of the overall winners, we’ve included that below.
However, we aren’t covering all those lists, instead, we will be looking at just one of our favorite, but still strong lists!
Mid-MO Maelstrom: Taylor Barger – Slaanesh Daemons
Taylors list was two detachments of Chaos Daemons. The first is a battalion of Slaanesh Daemons led by two Keeper of Secrets and Shalaxi Helbane. Keeper of Secrets is easily some of Slaanesh’s best models on the tabletop. For a little over 2oo pts, they offer an insane melee unit with great durability and abilities to keep them alive and continue dealing damage.
Shalaxi Helbane is essentially just a named KoS, but with the benefit of being even harder to damage! It also is a different model meaning you get to essentially have a cap of 4 Keeper of Secrets, which are more or less the faction’s best model.
Troops add in 30 Daemonettes, which are the faction’s main troop, giving you access to secure objectives, soak wounds for more important models, and get a few extra melee threats into combat. Elites add in a total of 6 Fiends and 3 Blissbringers, which add in a much-needed layer of mobility, allowing for attacking your opponent’s units that are most vulnerable.
The second detachment is a Patrol of Chaos Undivided, but ultimately only runs one non-Slaanesh unit. It is led by a third Keeper of Secrets and Be’lakor! Be’lakor is a fantastic character. Granted he is pretty expensive, but you get a beast in melee, who also comes with aura support for the list such as re-rolls.
Finally, there are also 10 more Daemonettes for extra bodies and 5 furies for some cheap mobility that gets the total right up to 2k for max efficiency.
This list just goes to show us that fluffy lists can still perform decently, but you still have to play it correctly! It also proves that older, strong lists can still perform decently with shifting metas sometimes.
