This set has some really awesome minis inside but could also herald bigger things for the armies inside. They call the Aelves, Morathi’s Aelves, but could they be the new Dark Aelves, Umbraneth, we’ve been hearing about for some time now.
For the Skaven, we’ve also been hearing about their new battletome, and this box even clears up a rumor engine we’ve seen. So, this box could mean big things!
Warhammer Community just unveiled the new box, but let’s first look at the rumors, then get into the new stuff!
It all started when they did a preview of Shadow, Iron, and Broken Realms and revealed this shadowy artwork. It reminded us of Malerion taking a new form. Some of you may have heard of the name “Malerion” aka Malekith aka the Witch King before from the world that was… We’ve also seen a little short story of him talking to Morathi and the fact that he is finally manifesting himself into the mortal realms.
Well, he needs an army to lead, so we expect them to be kind of like dark elves in a sense. We haven’t seen any minis, but this looks like GW has been setting them up for a long time now. If you want to read more about the initial time we thought they were coming, check that out here.
According to this new rumor though, these will be near the end of 2022 at the earliest… And with this box, that could be coming true!
Lurking in the Sewers: GW Rumor Engine
This is the rumor engine we saw not that long ago, and when you see the new minis, you’ll see this exact bit! So it’s good to see another rumor taken care of!
Skaven & Aelves in Warhammer Underworlds Nethermaze Box Set
This boxed set contains two new warbands drawn to the nexus of the Nethermaze – the Shadeborn, whom Morathi has sent to cut out the heart of the traitorous Queen Kia’tan, and Skittershank’s Clawpack, who seek a new source of penumbral power for the Clans Eshin.
It’s always good to get new minis when they are so cool!
It also comes with everything you need to jump right into a game of Warhammer Underworlds, including two boards, dice, tokens, and a 52-page rulebook that includes all the lore about a labyrinth that seethes with malicious intent.
It is nice how they do these boxes because you get everything you need to play in a single box. Also, if you look at the Skaven model in the front, it’s quite obviously the Rumor Engine from above!
Led by the enterprising young assassin Slynk Skittershank, Skittershank’s Clawpack are fast and fragile, deadly assassins who all move a speedy five hexes. If they control the pace of the match they will run rings around an enemy warband. The act of killing the enemy leader is the Inspire condition for the whole warband, who then descend on their remaining foes with newfound confidence, looking stylish while doing so.
As a newborn god-queen hungering for yet more power, Morathi-Khaine covets the dark energies of the Liar’s Moon. Her operatives are the Shadeborn, adherents of the shadow arts. These fighters use the shade of cover to manoeuvre around their enemies, receiving buffs and ambushing unwary opponents.
We’ll see if they just keep adding to the current army, or if these will actually fall into the new Umbraneth army.
