Chaos Marines are clawing back into competitive play as another off-meta Warhammer 40k army list emerged in Renegade Wargaming Spring Up GT!

9th Edition’s meta is again in flux, but some players are taking lists with units that nobody was expecting. Check out this awesome homebrew list that emerged in a tournament over the weekend. This just goes to show us that sometimes it’s more about the general’s skill than what you play.

Thanks to Best Coast Pairings we are able to look back at the event as if we were there ourselves.

If you wanted to see the names and factions of the overall winners, we’ve included that below.

However, we aren’t covering all those lists, instead, we will be looking at just one of our favorites this week.

Renegade Wargaming – Spring Up GT: Kade Smrecek – Iron Warriors 4th Place

Kade went all-in on Daemon Engines for his list with a two detachment setup. The first is a Super-Heavy with a Brass Scorpion and 2 Lord of Skulls which takes up about 3/4 of the list! In general, all three of these giant models provide a mix of melee, chaff clearing shots, and anti-armor shots. All of which is one a massive 28-wound body with invulns and decent movement.

The second detachment is a simple Patrol led by a Lord Discordant and a Master of Possession. The Lord Discordant is a great Daemon Engine support piece adding 1 to hit rolls and even being able to heal a nearby model every turn, helping you get the most value out of the 3 big engines in the list. The Master of Possession provides psychic support and can help buff the durability of a nearby Daemon unit.

Closing out the list is 3 units of CSM all of which have a single autocannon for some help clearing chaff and grabbing objectives while the Daemon Engines wreck havoc on the opponent’s forces.
