War for the Forge GT: Top 40k Homebrew Army List

40k-homebrew-army-listsSlaanesh takes the stage as a new homebrew Emperor’s Children Warhammer 40k army list emerged at the War for the Forge!

9th Edition’s meta is again in flux, but some players take lists with units that nobody expected. Check out this awesome homebrew list that emerged in a tournament over the weekend. This shows us that sometimes it’s more about the general’s skill than what you play.

Thanks to Best Coast Pairings, we can look back at the event as if we were all there ourselves.

If you wanted to see the names and factions of the overall winners, we’ve included that below.

However, we aren’t covering all those lists. Instead, we will look at just one of our favorites this week.

War for the Forge GT: Mike Norton – Emperor’s Children 5th Place

Mike Norton 1

Mike’s unique Emperor’s Children list is a two detachment set up, with the first being a battalion led by a Dark Apostle, a Lord Discordant, and Lucius the Eternal. The Apostle provides support through prayers, while the Discordant is an absolute unit, fantastic at killing anything in its way with some minor support as well.

On the other hand, Lucius is a super selfish model that excels in melee combat and even gets bonuses when going after other strong melee fighters.

Troops keep it basic with 15 Noise Marines, which come with pretty great heavy weapons (The Blastmasters) and a 10-man Cultist unit to soak some wounds or sit on an objective.

Elites are also pretty straightforward, with 12 Possessed to run into melee and a squad of 10 Terminators. They are running Combis and Accursed Weapons or Fist weapons, making them formidable in melee and decent and popping off shots while they run up the board.

Fast attacks close the detachment with a single chaos spawn just to round out the points and add a few more wounds to the board.

Finally, closing out the list is the arguable best unit that Chaos Space Marines have access to, even when he is in an Emperor’s Children list, and that is Abaddon! This guy is essentially a fraction of a percent weaker than Primarch’s status and is, in general, a massive force on the field, both thanks to his support abilities and his fantastic combat prowess rivaling Guilliman himself.
