The Imperial Guard score a spot as a new homebrew Warhammer 40k army list from the Boltercon 2022 GT!
Check out this awesome homebrew list that emerged in a tournament over the weekend that once again shows that sometimes it’s more about the general’s skill than what you play.
Top 40k Homebrew Army List: Boltercon 2022 Invitational GT
Thanks to Best Coast Pairings, we can look back at the event as if we were all there ourselves.
If you wanted to see the names and factions of the overall winners, we’ve included that below.
However, we aren’t covering all those lists. Instead, we will look at just one of our favorites this week.
Boltercon 2022 Invitational GT: Christian Chadwell – Astra Militarum 6th Place
Christian went for three detachments of pure Guard, making a pretty new and interesting list that doesn’t need any knights for the support!
The first is a Battalion led by two Tempestor Primes and Inquisitor Coteaz. The Tempestors help with power fists in melee and even help out with Commands. Coteaz is a generally good model with Psychic support and great stats.
Troops keep it simple with a ton of Tempestus Scions…
Actually, in total, there are 60 Scions! This is a ton of foot soldiers! Meaning a ton of bodies, a ton of wounds, and a ton of shots, especially in the early turns when they are at full strength.
Elites bring in 2 Command squads for some extra special weapons and the utility they provide.
The second Battalion is also all in on the Tempestus train with Hector Rex, a 3rd Tempestor, and a Primaris Psyker leading it. Much like Coteaz, Hector is just a solid model; however, he also provides a great leadership buff and has bonuses to deny psykers. The Primaris Psyker is just another source of psychic support. The Tempestor is just a more redundant/Command sources.
Troops once again go all in on the Scion train!
This time there are notably more special weapons.
In total, there are 60 more scions, bringing the total to a whopping 120 Scions!
Elites close out the second battalion with 6 Wyrdvane Psykers.
Then finally but not least is the third detachment, a Patrol led by a Commissar, who provides a good leadership ability and decent enough stats/weapons for the cost.
There are then 20 more scions to round out the list with a gigantic 140 Scion troops, which is kind of absurd and definitely a new take on the current meta!
