Asmodee Tells Games Workshop to Hold Their Beer

asmodee-games-workshop-pricing-greedAsmodee tells Games Workshop to hold their beer with the pricing of their new terrain packs, which are quite an interesting look…

We covered one of the new terrain packs when it was first announced, as it’s also a tank with an Ultimate Encounter which is a cool narrative play pack! However, the other terrain expansions may be a little iffy…

Editor’s Note: This is an editorial with opinions about the new Marvel Crisis Protocol Hydra Terrain and pricing from Atomic Mass Games, published by Asmodee.

MCP Hydra Tank Terrain & Ultimate Encounter Pack: $69.99

Hydra TankThis is the first of the three and definitely the most “worth” it. As not only do you get a tank, but you also get the ultimate encounter kit with it! So, if you were going to pick one of the three up, this might be the one to go with.

These are on pre-order now and are set to release on January 13th, 2023Hydra Tank 2Let’s hear what they have to say about this new tank and encounter:

Players test their skills against the pinnacle of Hydra might in this new pack for Marvel: Crisis Protocol! A twisted machine of occult warfare, the Hydra Tank found in this pack has one purpose: total annihilation. No mere terrain feature, this pack contains everything players need to wage battle across a Hydra-dominated field in the all-new Fire at Will! Ultimate Encounter. Whether they take control of the Hydra Tank itself or those who oppose it, all will know the power of Hydra.

Something interesting to point out, as the similarity of the design of the Hydra Tank to the Imperial Guard Leman Russ Tank is noticeable at first glance, is that the Leman Russ new in box from Games Workshop is “only” $60. However, that contains no additional gameplay material like the Hyrda Tank Ultimate Encounter kit.

Hydra Turret Terrain Pack: $64.99

Hydra MCP TerrainThis is where things really start to get questionable, as this can’t be used for anything other than terrain. While they are cool, they are fairly expensive for what they are.

Players can dominate the battlefields of Marvel: Crisis Protocol with this new Terrain Pack! The Hydra Turret found in this pack cuts an imposing figure while announcing to all that Hydra is ready for a fight. Equipped with optional heads that make it ready for any situation.

Hydra Power Station Terrain Pack: $49.99

Hydra MCP Terrain 2At least this one isn’t as expensive and looks to cover a decent amount of ground. Still, if you bought just the two packs of terrain, it would cost you $115!

Players can energize their Marvel: Crisis Protocol battlefields with this new Terrain Pack! Whether invading bordering lands or defending their stolen territory, Hydra is always quick to raise a base and dig in.

Vertigus Terrain featureVertigus Terrain Box MSRP $150 and seems to contain more terrain

So overall, we can see the issue some MCP players may have with these sets. If you want all three, it will cost you a whopping $185, which is on par with a bundle sets of terrain from Games Workshop.  However, there is no bundle for these; they are just three sets being offered separately.

Still, if the terrain has value to you, then get it. Never be afraid to vote with your hobby dollars; if something has value to you, then it’s worth it!
