GW Finally Did Something Right & No One Cares

GW-Previews-wal-hor warhammer communityGames Workshop finally did something right for a change, and well quite frankly no one seems to care. Is it too little, too late for Warhammer 40k?

We’ve been saying it for a while now, but the price of getting into the game of Warhammer 40k can be a bit high for newer players, especially when you consider how much just getting the rules actually is. So, even though this is just for a small faction/additional units, it’s something we’ve been wanting Games Workshop to do for a while!

We recently looked at how much it would cost to buy every codex and supplement, which is not pretty. So, even though this is a tiny step, it’s a good step for GW to have made!

Games Workshop Finally Did Something Right for a Change!

Agents of the Imperium RuleWhat could Games Workshop actually do to make Codex Book releases provide more value for hobbyists? Well, a big step in the right direction would be what they just did with Agents of the Imperium!

By giving away the rules and points for free. Let’s face it, every codex book’s rules are DOA on releases, as every single one is updated significantly within 30 days.

Putting out the rules for free online would make it easy for new players to see them, and we think it could make more new and existing hobbyists buy more armies.

When you look at the Assassins and the Agents of the Imperium, now it might get people to actually pick them up and add a few new models to their army! It’s more enticing when you don’t have to pay $55 for a codex book (or $11 for a White Dwarf) just to see what everything does!

The Better Way To Release Warhammer 40k Codex BooksIf they did this for all armies, this could free up that cash for players to get at least a box of new miniatures each month instead. Perhaps most compelling is that so many other rule systems already do this; it would just bring GW on par with many other existing games.

As we said, this is a tiny step compared to a full faction, but at least they did it for something. Who knows, maybe this is something Games Workshop can expand on in 10th to make the game have a smaller barrier to entry.

We think this is what both players and hobbyists want, and it rocks! GW can still sell “codex books” that folks would buy for the intrinsic value, but the rules for Warhammer 40k, and points should be available for free to help grow and update the game.
