The Space Marines First Born range takes another hit as GW put more models on the Last Chance to Buy List as they become Legends with the new codex.
At the start of a new edition, Games Workshop generally moves some units to Legends, and the Space Marines First Born range has been squarely on the chopping block. This is expected, as GW has been expanding the Primaris version of the line, and there are so many units some are bound to be left behind.
Unfortunately, some iconic models are getting the axe this time, and some not-so-famous ones as well. Either way, GW says they will not be in the next codex and will be moved to Legends with free 10th Edition 40k rules or can be used as proxies for other units.
Not only are most of these going to Legends, but all of them are also hitting the Last Chance to Buy List, meaning if you want anything you see here, now is the time to buy it before they are gone.
After this, you will only be able to buy them from the secondary market.
Boom Goes the First Born as GW Moves Them to Legends
The list of Space Marines First Born models that are on the last chance to buy now and going to Legends comes from Warhammer Community.
The Space Marine range is already HUGE, so to make room for the glorious new miniatures, we’re letting some of the longest-serving kits depart the range for a well-earned retirement.
Fans of Firstborn Space Marines should know no fear, though – contrary to heretical whispers in the noosphere, they’re not being erased from the 41st Millennium. The new Space Marines Codex still includes plenty of non-Primaris units, if that’s your preference. Tactical Squads will still be driving about in Rhinos, fighting under the covering fire of Devastator Squads, and so on.
While some of these units might have been in the index, they will not survive the first round of 10th Edition codex books. GW has often assured people that all of First Born will not be gone, but this list hits some of the longest-lasting units.
Many departing units have a contemporary analogue that you can use instead – so the storied Bike Squad that has served you and the Emperor for 20 years could stay in your army, using the rules for Outriders.
In other cases, there’s data sheets that fit the bill for multiple units. So while Assault Squads are going away, you can still use the rules for Vanguard Veterans to play with them.
The Venerable Dreadnought also stays in the new Codex – but has shortened its name to just “Dreadnought”* and can be used to represent older plastic (or metal!) Dreadnoughts.
This is an interesting way to change the line, as multiple sets of models will use the same rules now.

There’s some departing units, like the Thunderfire Cannon or Land Speeder, that won’t have an appropriate analogue in the new Codex – but their rules will just shift to Warhammer Legends and will be free to download here on Warhammer Community. This means you can keep using them in all your games, with the exception of competitive Warhammer 40,000 events like tournaments. In most cases, these rules will be similar (if not identical) to the ones in the recent Index deck.
If a unit doesn’t have an appropriate proxy, it will just be moved to Legends with similar rules to what they have now. Either way, it’s sad to see something like the Landspeeder or Scouts removed from the active product lineup. However, if you want yours, be sure to get them now before they are gone for good!
