Not that long ago, The Army Painter sent out a bunch of mystery paints to people worldwide, but now we have the official announcement for this new Fanatic line, along with a ton of production and usage details. They mention they have been working on these paints for four years, and it shows because the Fanatic paint coverage and colors look amazing.
Army Painter Fanatic Release Date, Features & Product Lineup Details
If you’ve been looking for a new set of acrylics to get your minis on point, these might just be perfect! The latest details on the new Fanatic Warpaints line come from The Army Painter Video.
The new line will have 216 new paints, with eight reformulated skin tones, reformulated metallics, 18 effects paints, and a wash line with 18 paints.
When they set out to make these, they wanted to make paint with the best coverage, which makes it easy to use by pro painters and tabletop players.
This took them four years to develop, and throughout the process, they received input from some of the best painters out there! One great thing about The Army Painter is that they are always taking feedback and actually incorporating it into their products.
Pretty much everyone they talked to mentioned coverage and how you can’t make a paint like this to hold enough pigment and actually cover. However, they managed to do both and used 300%-700% more pigment in these new paints (depending on the color). When you put this much pigment in, it generally doesn’t cover and separates.
They added a stabilizer to the mix (between the pigment and the coverage), and this let the paint flow, cover well, and have insane color values. It’s not often yellow that can be painted directly on a black base like this to actually cover it and look good! This also makes it very easy to use.
They wanted to do a triad system initially, but three colors just aren’t enough. So, instead, they went with the flexible six-color triad system. This allows you more versatility while painting and an easy system to work off. This basically gives you four triads for each set of traditional colors.
The bottles themselves show what “triad” set they are in, so you know where to go from there value-wise (either brighter or darker.) This should make painting much easier, especially considering they are also color-matched to their sprays and other paints.
You know they wouldn’t leave you without mixing balls, and each bottle comes with two mixing balls inside.
Last but not least, they tell you the actual color of the paint on the side of the bottle, so you don’t have to guess based on a crazy paint name. Plus, you can see the actual color, which is super convenient for color matching as well.
Do the Fanatic Paints Color Match Warpaints, Air & Sprays?
The Fanatic Paint Line will have many new colors, but they will be color-matched to their existing line of sprays and air paints (of colors with the same name). However, these will be taking over the place of the existing Warpaints.
When Do Army Painter Fanatic Paints Release?
The Mega and Complete sets of the Fanatic line will hit pre-order in January 2024. Meanwhile, the Starter Set will go on pre-order in February 2024. Singles and other smaller sets will then follow later in 2024. If you want to pick any of the colors up, mark your calendar for the dates above!
