Henry Cavill talks more about working on the Warhammer projects with GW and Amazon as he instills more confidence for those on the fence!
Henry Cavill, the British actor known for his roles in “Superman” and “The Witcher,” is set to star in and produce a TV show series for Amazon Studios based on the Warhammer 40k franchise. If you love Warhammer, you know how often you think about the game (probably more than you might want to admit), and Cavill isn’t very bashful about admitting it! We all know just how much he likes the game. Saying something like this is not only really cool to hear but should make everyone feel confident in his upcoming projects.
Henry Cavill Says Warhammer is His Privilege
In late 2022, GW announced the deal (with Cavill at the helm), and a year later, GW announced they had finally signed the full agreement, which means they can start moving forward! In a recent interview promoting the movie Argylle, Cavill had this to say about working on the Warhammer projects:
It is the greatest privilege of my professional career to have this opportunity.
I can’t say too much, again, it’s early days still. But to have this opportunity to bring it to screen, and be at the tiller so it can be faithful, is key to me.
This is the stuff I’ve been dealing with since I was a kid. This is the stuff I spend my free time daydreaming about, as an adult as well, and I get to bring it into life. There is no greater reason than I joined the industry than doing something like this.
For someone who has worked on so many amazing projects, it’s incredible to hear him so excited about the project. We’ve covered his love of Warhammer pretty extensively, so it’s not new per se, but the greatest privilege of his career is quite the statement! We hope this means everything he makes will stay true to the lore and really bring the universe and IP to life!
There was a long lull with not much news, but after GW signed the full agreement in late 2023, it’s really time to start daydreaming! While he hasn’t said precisely what the project will be, GW did tease that we could get both a movie and a TV show to kick off the series! However, that’s all rumor (even though GW mentioned it, they didn’t confirm it), so don’t get your hopes too high.
Henry Cavill Updates Warhammer Status While Promoting ‘Argylle’
Actor Henry Cavill has recently shared a positive update on the progress of his upcoming Warhammer 40,000 adaptation for Amazon. While promoting his latest film, Argylle, Cavill spoke about the project and expressed his excitement for it. “Warhammer is progressing very well,” he said. “Big things are happening, and we are very excited.”
While details about the project are still light, he elaborated: “I have loved Warhammer since I was a boy, making this moment truly special for me. The opportunity to shepherd this cinematic universe from its inception is quite the honour and the responsibility. I couldn’t be more grateful for all the hard work put in by Vertigo, Amazon, and Games Workshop to make this happen. One step closer to making a nigh-on lifelong dream come true”.
GW, Amazon Studios, & Henry Cavill Warhammer Show Series Contracts Signed
Announced on December 18th, 2023, Amazon Studios has acquired the rights to Warhammer 40k, and Henry Cavill will star and produce a TV show, series, and movie for them!
There were rumors that pointed to Games Workshop and Henry Cavill no longer making a Warhammer series with Amazon. However, as rumors tend to do, they turned out to be not 100% accurate. You can read more about that here. Now that this project is official and the contracts are signed, it’s time for all parties involved to get to work. Here is the latest from Games Workshop about their agreement with Amazon Studios.
