The 40k European Team Championship just ended and Team USA has won the gold, with Knights firmly at the top of the competitive food chain.

The European Team Championship had international teams pitted against each other in an eight-man team event. It’s a sort of “battle of the nations”. despite all of the unique lists that were there, Knights still managed to pull through and come out on top.

Team USA has won the Gold this time around with the talented Paul (Tony) Kopach tying for the top player slot with a perfect score! Let’s look at what team USA brought, stating with Kopach’s Castellan Knight.

etc guard

This list capitalized on the best of the best from different factions. CP farm from Guard, Two Blood Angel Slam Captains, and a Knight to dump half of those CPs on.

Brad Chester (96 pts)

etc thousand sons

What made this list unique was that Magnus didn’t even show up. He took Abaddon and Ahriman instead. Not a bad combo together honestly. Abaddon is horrifying in close combat and Ahriman with his buddies can still do the same thing Magnus can. The best part is they can’t be targetted because they’re under 10 wounds. Plus abby keeps them cultists in line and fearless as well.

Sean Nayden

etc harlequins

This list is all about disruption. With the support from Dark Eldar and the ability to use Agents of Vect combined with the mobility of Harlequins, this list was able to finesse its way around the enemy without breaking a sweat. Guess how it does against Knights, two words: Hay Wire!

Nicholas Rose (89 pts)

Tyranids

etc tyranids

Neurothropes and Zoanthropes were spammed in this list. Effectively capitalizing on psychic powers and becoming a potent mortal wound engine along with mobility and screening from GSC.

Nick Nanavati (73 pts)

ynarri yvraine

etc ynnari

Some of the best units from Eldar combined with Yvraine “the Cat Lady” to make sure Soulbursts were always popping off. It’s great being able to do something for free after death and this army made sure others knew how good it was too.

Kurt Clauss (67 pts)

necrons army Dynasty

etc necrons

Necrons decided to max out on the mortal wound engines for the faction by bringing three Tesseract Vaults and a Shard of the Deceiver to teleport close to the enemy before turn one even happens. The Scarabs were there to be annoying and hold objectives.

Steve Pampreen (46 pts)

daemons

etc daemons

This was the Skittles of Daemon armies. They took a little something from every Chaos God and rolled it into one killing machine. The toughness or Nurgle, the swiftness of Slaanesh, the brutal strength of Khorne, and the psychic presence of Tzeentch creates a nasty ball of units that have a strength in every aspect of the game.

Andrew Gonyo (38 pts)

custodes art

etc custodes

The firepower from the Aggressors is impressive as it is. When you combine that with the deepstriking from Deathwatch, they suddenly are able to deal with almost any threat on the board. Then you’ve got Custodes that are surprisingly hard to kill doing the legwork.

Great job to Team USA and to everyone who participated in the event. Knights still managed to pull through even the most diverse army lists we’ve probably seen to date.
