9th Edition 40k is starting out with points changes for all Space Marines, check out the latest for chapters like Space Wolves, Dark Angels, and Blood Angels.
Spotted on Reddit, there’s a downloadable Google spreadsheet of points changes by faction. Posted up by U/Saeik, this is still a work in progress and some errors may be spotted. However, it seems like there’s a whole group of people working on this! With that being said, let’s get into some of the points changes on characters and exclusive units by Chapter.
9th Ed. Points Changes: Blood Angels, Dark Angels & Space Wolves
Just as a formatting key, the column on the left is 8th Edition’s points, the column in the middle is 9th Edition’s points, and the column all the way on the right is the % of change from 8th to 9th Edition.
We’ve also already seen the spread of points changes for generic Space Marine units across all Codex Chapters that we’ve covered here.
Blood Angels
Starting off, there’s been a massive increase in points for mobility. The Sanguinary Priest has gone up slightly but the second you give him a Jump Pack in 9th Edition and he’s going up a whopping 20 pts.
Death Company and Sanguinary Guard which are currently the Blood Angel’s bread and butter haven’t gone up astronomically. While going up 3 and 4 pts respectively, that does add up when you start taking squads of ten with different wargear. However, it’s not as heavy-handed as some of the other nerfs we’ve seen.
Finally, for named characters, they’ve all gone up across the board. Some of the biggest points increases that’s left us scratching our head are for the characters we hardly ever see and aren’t even Primaris. Gabriel took a 30 pt hit while Tycho also went up 21%…?
Dark Angels
Dark Angels have a fancy word for their HQs like Interrogator Chaplains and Masters. However, no major changes were noted.
The Ravenwing Talonmaster actually went down in points despite everything across all factions going up which is a huge bonus.
The Darkshroud also got a small points decrease in the Fast Attack slot.
As for named characters, everyone either went up or stayed the same. Overall, there weren’t any major points hikes like there were in the Blood Angels.
Space Wolves
Before we jump into Space Wolves it’s important to note that they largely have the same kind of units as all the other Chapters. They just put “Wolf” in front of literally everything to make it unique. We’ve counted them as Chapter-exclusive although it’s mainly just a title difference for the most part.
Pretty much everything unique to Space Wolves in the Troops role went up 20+% which is kind of nasty. We’ll probably be seeing a bigger focus on regular Intercessors over the more expensive non-Primaris units now.
Space Wolf Flyers didn’t go up hardly any points. However, it’s worth noting that we’re not exactly sure how good the Elite for Space Wolves turned out. This field is still left blank largely for 9th Edition points. But remember, this is all a work in progress.
Fast Attacks are looking great with all of the Chapter’s unique units not going up at all.
Finally, there are the named characters, which have by far turned out the best out of the other Chapters we’ve covered. They’ve all stayed the same with Ragnar going up a measly 5pts.
This Google sheet is viewable by anyone and is continually having new points added. If you’re also curious about your Chapter’s wargear cost, that’s all been tallied up under their respective tabs as well. We strongly recommend you take a closer look at all the changes for your faction if you have time!
What do you think about the main Chapter’s points adjustments? Do you think Blood Angels have gotten less competitive with all the points increases? Are Space Wolves going to be the next Space Marine hotness?
