Adeptus Custodes and Sisters of Silence, now called the Talons of the Emperor 9th edition 40k points changes have been revealed! So how do they shake out?
Over on Reddit, there’s a Google spreadsheet of point adjustments for just about every faction. U/Saiek mentioned that it’s a work in progress so some tweaks are bound to turn up eventually. On that note, the Adeptus Custodes and Sisters of Silence have been absorbed into the Talons of the Emperor faction, bringing cheaper battlefield roles and a new Stratagem toolbox.
With that massive buff to the faction, we’ll be taking a look at the point adjustments for all their unit’s base point cost. Because this is a more elite faction, we’ll also be going over their wargear tweaks as well.
9th Edition 40k Adeptus Custodes Point Changes
Jumping into the base points changes for the Custodes first, the biggest nerf is probably to the Shield-Captain on a Dawneagle Jet Bike and the Contemptor Dread. The Land Raider took a hit too but nobody ever played them really…
Looking at the Sisters of Silence, Holy moly the Vigilators and Witchseekers almost doubled in cost. Prosecutors made it out the best and being that Prosecutors are T3 bodies with boltguns, they’ll probably see play (mainly for grabbing objectives). That way, players don’t have to dedicate a swole unit of Custodes to camp a single point in the backfield.
Now, while some of the nerfs might look a bit extreme, check out their wargear. As it turns out, this is where the faction really wins.
From what’s been added in this list, a bunch of things have gotten a massive discount now costing 0pts. Of those, the twin las cannon dropped 50 pts. The twin heavy bolter dropped 17. The hurricane bolter (which is a hugely popular wargear option for Dawneagle Bike units) dropped 10pts, etc.
For melee weapons, the only thing that still costs points (that’s in this list) is just the misericordia. Finally, the other wargear hasn’t been changed all that much expect extra attack vexilla which went up to 30.
After seeing these changes, it looks like the Talons of the Emperor seem to be the real winners in the realm of wargear. While base unit costs have gone up, their wargear discounts bring them back down.
