9th Edition’s meta is still settling, but some players are taking lists with units that nobody was really expecting. Check out these awesome homebrew lists that emerged in different tournaments over the weekend. They didn’t do too bad and this just goes to show that it’s more about the general’s skill than what you play.

Critical Hitt 40k RTT: Chris Sage-Necrons

40k rtt necronsNecrons did pretty well without using any of the new stuff from the Indomitus Box Set. Two Crypteks and an Overlord led two chonk blobs of Warriors and a squad of Immortals. The Nightbringer also made an appearance stopping the hearts of anything that had a pulse near him. Always wounding on a 2+ unless it’s a vehicle is just solid.

A Forge World Tomb Stalker also was taken for some backfield disruption. This guy could go into deepstrike himself and pop his T7 body up out of the blue.

Some fast Triarch Praetorians also made the list and ran with the mobile Scarab Swarms and Wraith units. All four of these units offered great mobility for objective holding while also having a bit of a melee punch. Great job.

Iron Halo Con: Tyler Goodyear- Emperor’s Children

steven schirmer 1Fabulous Bill and Luscious the Eternal (with a guest appearance of a Smash Lord) ran a Battalion of Cultists, Noise Marines, and regular Chaos Marines. The Cultists were full strength and did a great job at taking up a huge footprint on the table. Plus, if the enemy wanted to get rid of them, Tyler could always Tide of Traitors them back onto the board.

While these guys soaked up some firepower, some Terminators with Combi-bolters also went into deepstrike and acted as a hammer for turn two.

steven schirmer 2Mixed in with the Cultists and other Power armor on the board, two Havocs  (one with Chaincannons and one with Lascannons) also blasted things away with the help of some Obliterators. Being Slaanesh, he also had the option to pop Endless Cacophony on any of these shooty units. That’s just added value. Sweet list.

Iron Halo Con: Steven Schirmer- Imperial Knights

imperial knights schirmerKnights rocking the Taranis special rules gave them a 6+++ FNP and the ability to regen a wound a turn. CPs were spent for one extra Warlord Trait and two extra Relics.

Some Helverins that move 14″ with 60″ range Autocannons were able to hang back on objectives in the deployment and still stay relevant all-game. Some Moiraxes with Graviton Pulsars were great for popping small squads of Primaris or chipping wounds off of vehicles. This was just a great value unit.

A Crusader with all the pew pews acted as the main firing platform for anti-armor. The Gallant took the Landstrider Warlord Trait, which made him the list’s wrecking ball, charging straight ahead into the front while being covered by the Helverins and Crusader.

Finally, a Knight Warden also made the list with Steven keeping the 1CP “auto-hit everything with your Gatling Cannon” Stratagem in his back pocket.

This is an oppressive Knight list that didn’t do too bad! Way to go for running big stompy vehicles in a meta where Eradicators are running rampant.
