According to ICv2 Good Games, an Australian based gaming store chain, is set to start operations in the US!
Think the old Wizard of the Coasts stores with a twist, Good Games not only sells games ranging from Magic the Gathering to board games, BUT also hosts events too.
Australian game store chain Good Games is establishing operations in the U.S., the company announced Monday. Robert Teirney, formerly Manager, Global Premier Play Operations for Wizards of the Coast , has been hired to head U.S. operations for the chain. The company hopes to open its first U.S. store in the first half of 2016.
Founded in 2006, they have 24 chain stores in Australia and according to their website:
Good Games is Australia’s largest group of dedicated gaming environments with all the latest game products. We host all the latest tournaments and events and have the room to suit whatever game you want to play. Select your closest store from the Stores tab to find all their Event details. Our extended opening hours and central locations means that we’ll be around, day or night. Drop by any time!
It’s unclear at this time where their first location will be or what if any tabletop wargaming brands they will sell/host events for.
However this is their tabletop offerings via their website:
Accessories and Bases
D&D Attack Wing
Fairytale Collection
Malifaux
Relic Knights
RPG Minis
Star Trek Attack Wing
Warmachine & Hordes
X-Wing
Star Wars Armada
Star Wars Imperial Assault
So I would imagine that they would be looking to add both card games, board games, and tabletop wargaming to their product mix in the stores they open here in the US.
Exciting times for the hobby either way, as this is a sure sign things are moving forward in our industry!
Would you rather shop a “chain” gaming store or a “mom and pop” one?
