New GW Paint Line Coming in August?

Someone out there may be spinning some tall tales this weekend, about new paints that may or may not be on the way from Games Workshop in August.

There is no doubt that times are a changing at Games Workshop. First we saw them scrap the White Dwarf as a vessel for advertisement and make the big jump to online media to promote their new releases.

The weekend brought us TWO big updates about new Warhmamer 40k that will be going on advanced order this Saturday August 6th as well, and who knows what more fun updates they have planned for this week?

Moving forward information will be traveling even fast and faster around the hobby world as social medias like Facebook make the posting and sharing of such news easy for companies like Games Workshop and the like…

salt-pile

But that leaves some other sites out there that may rely on “news” and “rumors” as their only contribution to hobby quite literally in the dust unless they have some sort of “scoop” to contribute to the mix.

So there was this little tidbit that popped up over the weekend on a site that also very recently swore a new edition of 40k was on the way in August/ September as well:

just want to say there is going to be a new paint and hobby range which will drop in August.

Now what the heck does that mean? Is that one paint, is that a line of paints, or is that a hey retailers that $5000 in paint you bought 4 years ago is all going to get discontinued and now you have to buy NEW paint in a month that is traditionally your slowest (back to school).

Not only that, but there is no source, no follow up, no nothing. Just basically an open ended statement by someone that perhaps does not realize how powerful a statement they have made for THOUSANDS of store owners around the world who are struggling retail wise this summer.

So will there be a new paint line this August?

Well I can tell you that industry insiders here in the states that work at the company that supplies GW with their current paint line told Spikey Bits they have NOT sourced a new line of paint to them (GW).

Now that is not to say that they did not go with another company for a potential new line, or that there may even be one or two new paints this month either.

But those two things are fundamentally different from the above statement that has had a lot of folks contacting us in a panic about “a possible new paint line”.

Moving forward in the age of (Games) Workshop’s social media blitz I think it will be very important for all of us to add more salt than usual to any seemingly random utterances from sites that post strictly one or two sentence “articles” and never credit their sources.

Myth Busted?

Update:

Since this article was published more information has been found on “ new paint and hobby range which will drop in August.”

It looks like, as stated above it, will be a revamp and NOT a complete scrapping and re-do of the range> which the below image seems to imply if you take it at face value without doing any additional research into the exact products that will be coming/going etc.

Furthermore the site making the statement went on to personally attack Spikey Bits and our Editor, and added the following information to what would have otherwise been a very informative post (perhaps they should have led with from the get go instead of their normal one picture and sentence standard that created a panic amongst some store owners and customers).

“I can confirm similar after a chat with my FLGS this afternoon.

He mentioned that his supplier had told him there was going to be a big revamp of the paint rack retailers use to sell the paints soon.”

via JHall on dakka:
“It is a slight rebranding of the existing lines into one comprehensive 2 rack system.

we will have it in our store next week. It combines the Air range, the existing paints, and brings back all the stuff removed from the rack to Direct Only into one massive system. There are new racks to hold it all as well.”

As always with one picture and sentence posts… Add salt to taste.
