Veteran writer Horton is bringing the heat on the latest news for 8th edition 40k as well as some of his ideas about what the rules may just be.
Hey folks, as veteran player of Warhammer 40k, these are some confirmations plus my thoughts about what we will see for 8th when it drops in June(?)
8th Edition 40k
-Core rules available for free. Most likely released/leaked before
the actual release date.
-Very different rules, but still very “40k”. Look to AoS and Shadow War for hints of what is to come.
-A Trimmed down rulebook will be released. Will have 3-ways to play rules from the start (Confirmed)
-Points will only be in Matched Play section. Will be updated annually (Hinted at by GW). All points for the whole game will be in this book, as wellas missions, and the built-in restrictions of Matched Play.
-Matched Play will contain unit points and upgrade points. Detachments and formations will also remain, but will have a points cost (Similar to Age of Sigmar). Most of these may not appear until we see the 8th edition Codex line. List building will be simplified, but still detailed enough for endless awesomeness.
-Total rules re-write. Everything will be new. The game will be the 4 new books: rulebook, and 3 compilation books. This is why they had to
invalidate all old stuff. This gives them total control over what the game is when things start off.
-3 compilation books containing all rules for the WHOLE game. Every Model. Divided between Xenos, Chaos, and Imperial. There may alsobe free PDFs of these rules, but we know a printed version is coming. Each faction will get a codex release in time, but it will start with just this.
-FW models will also ALL get an update. Probably via PDF release. This explains the lack of an FAQ from them for 2 years.
Editor’s Note Don’t forget the missing Fires of Cyraxus book that has yet to be released as well.
-The story will continue to advance via campaign book type releases. 13th Black crusade will be first, and there will be a world-wide campaign for it.
-This all sets things up for a living edition that never expires. Things just get tweaked annually as we go.
-Templates seem to be going away, which makes sense because there are none in Age of Sigmar
Are you excited about 8th edition or dreading the change? How “free” is eighth edition truly going to be?
Is Games Workshop going to put out Sigmar-like Battletomes shortly after the release the same way they did AoS? They’ve already said there’s an app on the way, much like the WH AoS app. Are they going to charge to download certain rules and books the same they have with AoS? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
