From Alderaanian diplomat to leader of the Rebel Alliance, Leia Organa’s legacy has been one of inspiration, heroism, self-sacrifice, and leadership. Along with Han Solo and Luke Skywalker, her actions directly led to the ultimate downfall of the Galactic Empire—so it’s only fitting that she takes her place in Star Wars: Legion as the Rebellion’s second commander, battling alongside Luke Skywalker.

Leia Spread

Inside the Leia Organa Commander Expansion, you’ll find everything that you need to add Leia Organa to your army as a commander. A single unpainted, easily assembled miniature beautifully represents Leia Organa on the battlefield, while new upgrade cards allow you to customize how she is represented in the game. Finally, a hand of three new command cards lets you add a unique touch to your overarching strategies, bringing some of Leia Organa’s own unique tactics to your games. Releasing alongside the Fleet Troopers Unit Expansion, these two expansions promise new tactics for the Rebellion to employ in their struggles for freedom.

From the opening shots of A New Hope, we’re introduced to an ongoing space battle as a massive Star Destroyer closes in on a tiny corvette. The first characters we see within the beleaguered Tantive IV are C-3PO and R2-D2, but only moments later, we witness a squad of troopers dashing down the hallway to defend Leia Organa’s starship against the Imperial boarding party. With this Unit Expansion, you can bring those soldiers’ dedication and readiness for battle to your games of Star Wars: Legion.

Fleet Trooper Spread

The Fleet Troopers Unit Expansion immediately expands the options available to your Rebel armies with seven unpainted, easily assembled Fleet Trooper miniatures. An assortment of upgrade cards lets you customize your Fleet Troopers to match the battles you expect to face. After all, whether you’re battling in the tight corridors of a starship or on a more open battlefield, your Fleet Troopers can make the difference in your fights. Releasing alongside the Leia Organa Commander Expansion, these two expansions promise to shake up Rebel Alliance tactics for Star Wars: Legion.

First up, we unboxed the Fleet Troopers. Each model is individually bagged with its right and left arms. The instruction sheet shows the different poses for each trooper.

Upon closer inspection, the trooper body has great detailing. The faces on these troopers are getting better and better with each release. The bits definitely fit together more easily, being that they are a harder plastic.

As far as upgrade cards go, these fleet troopers are 4 points more than they’re rebel compatriots. The Fleet Troopers are better on standby. So if you perform a standby action, you get to activate them whenever an enemy unit at range 1-2 moves to attack or performs an action. But, remember if they attack or are attacked, it discards the standby token.

However, they get an aim token with their standby token, which allows you to re-roll two dice.

They also have two surges both for offense and defense which is head and shoulders better than the regular troops base abilities.

The Barrage Trooper allows you to get the blast ability at impact 2 to your dice roll at impact range 1-3. The Scattergun Trooper does not exhaust itself, and adds 2 dice to your pool at range 1-2 and gives you the pierce 1 ability.

Just as we saw with the troopers, Leia’s sculpting is very well done. The distinct facial features of the late actress are captured beautifully, along with great detail and styling on her vest and her defender sporting blaster. We are very impressed with the posing as well.

So, with Leia comes three command cards. Each of these gives you the chance to direct the many moving components of your army into one fluid fighting force. She has an action card called take cover, that allows two trooper units at range 1 to get a dodge token, which is great right off the bat when paired with the regular troopers.

Leia’s inspire mechanic allows you to remove up to 2 suppression tokens from other friendly units at range 1-2 after your rally steps. She’s also got martial arts skills and can ninja kick people in melee.
