There are a lot of conflicting reports out there about the Dark Angels getting some sort of Primaris Support next month September’s White Dwarf.
Screenshots of August’s White Dwarf been circling around the internet showing the ad for Septembers issue featuring “Primais Dark Angels”. What does that all mean though? Let’s break it all down…

So what can it mean? Well, one theory, and possibly the most likely is, that Dark Angels will be getting a “primaris refresher” on what units they can and can not take now that all the new Space Marine model kits are en route.
It is entirely possible that it’s just a printed form article of what many expect to be a day 1 FAQ update to all marine codex books stating what units they can now take, and what rules from the new book apply to them as well.
Here’s what GW has said on the matter (which was posted before these images were spotted):
Blood Angels, Space Wolves and Dark Angels:
- Captain in Phobos Armour
- Librarian in Phobos Armour
- Lieutenant in Phobos Armour
- Eliminator Squad
- Incursor Squad
- Infiltrator Squad
- Suppressor Squad
- Invictor Tactical Warsuit
- Impulsor
- Primaris Repulsor Executioner
The full datasheets and matched play points values for each of these units will soon be available as a free PDF download for each of these Chapters, along with the rules for the Shock Assault ability. Essentially, if you collect one of these Chapters, you can still pick up Codex: Space Marines for all the expanded lore, background and aforementioned datasheets, but you don’t need it to add the new units to your collection and use them in battle – your codex is still fully functional!
So yep Dark Angels are for sure getting a primaris update, right out of GW’s mouth. Whether the new White Dwarf expands on that any rules or fluff wise, is yet to be seen. However, it is entirely possible that new 2.0 versions of those 3 codex books are on the way in the near future. Two years into Warhammer 40k 8th edition, all the old 2017 rules could be due for a “crossing of the rubicon” of their own.
What do you think will be in the September White Dwarf? New rules, or a feature on potential new codex book for the First Legion?
