3rd Place: Gregory Hunter- Imperial Fists

primaris imperial fist

shootout imperial fitsts 1In true Imperial Fist fashion, a Chapter Master was given a Storm Shield and relic Power Fist (Fist of Terra). The Warlord was also the tankiest of all the Primaris Captains, the Indomitus Captain from the 9th Edition starter. Taking three Infiltrator Squads, these guys were able to create space for the rest of the list, deny deepstrikes, and cap objective early on.

Bladeguard Vets and a Judiciar just seemed like “melee good stuff” that was thrown into the list to help fend off objectives if needed. But for the anti- tank aspect of the list, two Contemptors with quad Las Cannons and Missile Launchers were taken. This unit has been a real popular hit across most Space Marine lists from the tail-end of 8th to now.

shootout imperial fitsts 2Finishing things off, it looks like some Grav Devastators were thrown into a Drop Pod and sent toward anything with a save of 3+. Eradicators backed up the Contemptors in hunting armor while the Relic Leviathan hunted down other two-wound elites on the board with twenty Storm Cannon shots. Lastly, the Impulsor was probably dedicated to the Bladeguard Vets/Judiciar to give them some mobility. Sweet list!

2nd Place: Travis Starnes- Chaos Daemons

shootout slaaneshThis Slaanesh list seems to be a spin-off of earlier versions we’ve seen in 9th Edition. Essentially, three huge blobs of Daemonettes acted as padding for two Keepers of Secrets and Syll’Esske while three squads of Fiends were sent racing forward to nab objectives or pull things into combat that didn’t want to be. If they could hold them down long enough for the Daemonettes and HQs to arrive, then the game was pretty much over.

1st Place: Josiah Cook- Death Guard

Death Guard Typhus Wal Hor

shootout death guard 1Overall, this is probably one of the most mechanized lists we’ve seen Death Guard play. Three Plagueburst Crawlers (which is pretty standard issue for DG players) were strung out in the backfield and lobbed shots downrange. However, points were also thrown into a Land Raider Achilles which acted like a Mortal Wound Battery as well as small transport.

Typhus and a Chaos Lord also showed up in a Poxmongers Plague Company with some Cultists taken just as some chaff/objective grabbers if they managed to sneak past all the enemy fire.

shootout death guard 2Lastly, 600 pts worth of Myphitic Blight-haulers were taken bringing some well-rounded firepower to the table. The Multi-Melta could pop armor but the flexibility of the Missile Launcher made these guys a great mid-board unit with decent Toughness. This is definitely one of the more elite lists we’ve seen Death Guard play but it’s always cool to see something new do so well.

What do you think about these lists? Do you play something similar? Have Forge World units gotten good again in 9th Edition?
