Spicy new Necron 40k stratagems rules are here from GW and it looks like they are getting new tricks to put up their robotic sleeves.
Stratagems can turn a losing game into a swift victory if they’re timed just right. If you’re playing Necrons, you’ll be happy to know that you’re just about to get some more new Stratagems passed your way in the upcoming Necron Codex. We’ll be looking at what was just revealed and giving a quick look at how useful it’ll be in-game straight from Warhammer Community.
9th Edition 40k Necron Stratagems Rules REVEALED
Knight Wardens can spend a CP to auto-hit everything with their Gatling Cannon. But this is on another level of power. 1CP to wound anything regardless of Toughness is just bonkers. However, it may not be as useful as WHC made it out to be. They left us with a quote of:
Use this when firing the transdimensional beamers from your Canoptek Wraiths at high-Toughness enemies and take advantage of that sweet -3 AP and 3 Damage.
Which sounds like all models within the unit will benefit. However, the Stratagems specifically says “NECRONS MODEL”. The wording is definitely weird.
The Cryptek, now renamed as “Technomancer”, you can get another round of reanimation on a unit. We’ve seen how Reanimation Protocols were just reworked and it seems like this is going to be mega value.
Pre-Game Stratagems
You can turn a regular Overlord into a Phaeron Chad Overlord, giving him a second use of his My Will Be Done. Super powerful. However, at 2CP, it may not be used in every list.
(includes the Primaris Lieutenant or Necron Overlord)
This is a new mechanic for Necrons. They can throw away a cheap Scarab base for a potential 3 mortal wounds. That’s also really nice. It’ll probably used about like the Hellfire Rounds Strat for Heavy Bolters in Space Marine armies.
Burrowing Nightmares is a new Stratagem for a new unit. These guys can leave the battle and drop back down. Super useful for grabbing objectives or catching up to a Transport that might’ve sped off.
Probably the weakest Stratagem we’ve seen in the list, but it’s a way to zap a couple of units around you for a single MW although it’s only at a 50/50 chance. Probably a C tier Strat.
The good ol’ Iron hands Souls of Iron Stratagem has been rebirthed. These Necrons have a shorter range but it’s also 1CP cheaper which is nice. Also, note that this is only specific to the Szarekhan Dynasty.
Overall, it seems like Necrons are getting away like bandits with these Stratagems. They’re either super offensive or super toolboxy. Plus, none of the Stratagems that we’ve looked at cost over 2CP. Very strong.
