GW is hiring professional tournament organizers this week as they have two jobs open for Events and Organized play in North America.
These are both brand new job openings meaning, we haven’t seen these positions before, and are a sign that GW is expanding! But what do these jobs do? What’s the purpose? Why the openings now?
GW Is Hiring Professional Tournament Organizers
Let’s look at both of the listings and try to figure that all out. Both of which have a deadline set on Nov. 12th.
The main duties as the Sr. N.A. Organized Play Manager are to carry out responsibilities in the following functional areas: community engagement and leadership, event organization and management, gaming event philosophy and format development, inter-departmental communication and stakeholder engagement, and event operational support.
“Internal stakeholders” is business-speak for “people in the company who you support”. So, it’s an odd term to use for an events manager, unless they intend to use the events as a way to advertise and push releases going forward…
The listing makes it a point to emphasize that they will need to Implement the Organized Play Strategy at all levels of play – local, regional, national, and continental. Meaning this is a huge development with potentially massive outreach and influence in the North American Warhammer hemisphere.
This position is slightly more skewed towards being directly involved in the community as its only concern is the core game system. There is a pretty big emphasis on fostering community and promoting “More Warhammer, More Often”.
The main duties as the Sr. N.A. Event Manager are to carry out responsibilities in the following functional areas: event organization and management, contract negotiation and management, event logistics and planning, move-in/move-out management, inter-departmental communication and stakeholder engagement, event operational support, and effective management/leadership of full-time, part-time, and volunteer event staff.
A key difference between the Event Manager and Organized Play Manager other than the types of events they focus on, is Vendors. The Event Manager will communicate with the logistical side of events while there is less mentioning of it and no mention of vendors for the Organized Play Manager.
Serve as the primary point of contact for contracts, venue and vendor negotiations, independent contractor / consultant agreements, and all general events related engagements
“Senior Manager” also tells us that there will be multiple people or branches below this position that work under them. Similarly, this Position responds directly to the respective Global Manager.
Each position refers to “hands-on experience with event and organized play management software is preferred”… So software like Best Coast Pairings? There are others like the software Wizards of the Coast uses for Magic: The Gathering, but really the market for this kind of software is pretty narrow, meaning these positions are going to be pretty selective.
They both also ask for a Bachelor’s Degree and 5-10 years of relative experience.
Will you apply for either position? Are these your dream jobs?
