Less Content Now On The 40k App Than at the Beginning

WHERE-IS-THE-VALUENot only can we not build armies on it yet, but now you actually get less content on the 40k app than in the beginning…  Where is the value?

As every new 9th Edition Codex comes out, you actually get less and less bang for your subscription dollars. Because in the beginning, when you pay for the app, you actually get to see every 8th Edition Codex. That means every time a new Codex gets released, you no longer have access to that Faction’s rules anymore for the same price. Plus with no more digital Codexes, you have to buy the book to get the rules back into your app.

We imagine GW has to be like the only company on the planet that actually removed digital content offerings in the COVID era…

Less Content Now On The 40k App Than at the Beginning

40k appWhile we’ve been kind of hard on the app (because we just want it to work) it could really streamline gameplay. The idea of having everything in one easy to access place sounds great. Like you won’t have to search for all the FAQs, updates, and CAs, they should just be in one spot. So we still have hope that once they get it all ironed out, it will improve gameplay. Still, seems strange to charge a fee for something and then decrease its efficacy when new books are released.

Most apps out there go the other way with it and actually give you more the longer it goes on. Now, you’ll have to buy every book to get a code if you want to keep your app up to date. We did a breakdown of how much it would cost to buy every book, and it’s kind of insane! Once the majority of books are released, you’re basically paying for the rules, and the codexes you’ve already (kind of..) paid for!

Price of the App Overall

40k app update 2You will pay $4.99 a month for the app and $50 for a codex (based on SM), then any supplements. If you just need those three things (for 6 months) you’re looking at $109.94 for just your army’s rules. Not trying to harp on the prices too much, but just interesting to look at.

So in essence, the more Codexes that come out, the less value you get from the app, (well unless you buy each codex book)…

Have you signed up for the app yet?  What do you think about the descending value?
