3rd Place: TJ Lanigan- Chaos

tzeentch wal

40k rtt chaos 1

For the first list, TJ decided to go for a detachment of undivided daemons. Leading his forces in this detachment is a Changecaster, The Changling, and a Lord of Change. These together are almost 400 pts of pure psychic support. And that’s not even all of it, there’s more down the list, so expect this list to dominate during that phase.

Moving onto Troops, there is a large 30 blob of pink horrors, who can deep strike in and cause some serious damage if they stay at full power for one turn, all while being decently hard to kill if your opponent lacks chaff clearing. To further push the idea of hard to kill annoying troops we see a total of 20 Nurglings, which are insanely hard to kill considering their points and make great objective squaters.

The second detachment is a patrol of Thousand Sons, which clearly sets the army in the realm in Tzeentch rather than just Chaos. The previous detachment just really wanted to take advantage of the Nurgling staying power.

The Patrol is relatively small with only a Daemon Prince, Ahriman, and some Cultists. The Prince offers a tiny bit of support, while mainly being able to turn into a beat stick when the time comes. Ahriman is a great psyker and even offers some rerolls in tight situations. The cultists are most likely just to fill in some extra points, extra bodies don’t hurt.

Finally, there is a third detachment with none-other than Magnus the Red. As one of the best psykers in the game, he can go uncontested in the phase. He offers rerolls in psychic tests which is immensely powerful in this list, all while being able to go into melee and beat most encounters easily.

2nd Place: Ken Knox- White Scars

White Scars

40k rtt white scars 1For White Scars, Ken went for a single detachment with Kor’sarro Khan and Primaris Lieutenant leading. Both of these are great support pieces and can even throw down in their own right alongside the best of them. Moving onto Troops, there is a single squad of Infiltrators to help snipe and add a touch of pressure, while a total of 25 Intercessors add plenty of bodies for objective taking and pushing up the board.

Moving onto elites, we see a Bladeguard Ancient, which allows units to fight/shoot before removing them when they die, and also adds one to hit rolls. Pair that with 14 Bladeguard Veterans and you’ve got yourself a fearsome wandering group that no one wants to touch with a 10 ft pole.

Rounding out the Elites, there is a Primaris Apothecary to help top off nearby squads, and an 8 man Vanguard Veteran squad with Jump packs that can move around the battlefield to wherever they are needed most.

Lastly, there is a single Inceptor squad of 5, which has great anti-armor weapons, which was the only remaining link that the list needed.

1st Place: Mark “Gator” Hertel- Adeptus Mechanicus

Skitarii Adeptus Mechanicus Wal Hor

40k rtt mechanicus 1

Mark went with a single detachment of Stygies Mechanicus. Leading his forces are an Inquisitor, a Dominus, and a Manipulus Tech-priest. This combo allows for great support, offering healing, rerolls, and even range buffs.

40k rtt mechanicus 2

For Troops, there are three squads of 5 Skitarii Vanguards, making up the rank and file units that can hold objectives for the greater army, while the rest of the list puts in work.

For Elites, he went for 29 Electro-priests, for a solid melee choice, plus when they kill something they become very hard to deal with as they get a 3+ invulnerable.

40k rtt mechanicus 3

Fast Attacks see 4 Ironstrider Ballistarius with twin las, making them mobile and able to take down some armored units. A total of 7 Serberys Raiders gives the list even more mobility while being extremely cheap bodies.

Heavy Support brings 3 Skorpius Disintegrators with Energy Cannons and Stubbers. This means they can shoot at armor, or troops to pretty decent efficiency, all while also boosting the leadership of any nearby units.

40k rtt mechanicus 4Finally, there are 3 Transports in the form of Skorpius Duneriders. We can assume these are to help get the Electro-priests into melee and protect them as long as possible so they can get that sweet 3+ invulnerable after they kill something.

Mechanicus Victory- Congrats to Mark on the win!
