Painting the Marvel Crisis Protocol M.O.D.O.K.: TAP Part 2

How to Paint Modok 6This is where we left off last time and the mini is already looking cool, but there’s still a lot to do. Let’s jump into it!

Painting the Metal

Painting MODOKStart with a base coat of Evil Chrome and take your time here as you want to hit a lot of areas and get good coverage. Then switch to a drybrush and hit the whole thing with True Copper, this is a focused drybrush though from the top down. Next, Take Rough Iron and hit a dry brush on the lower portion of the model, then come back with the Copper and blend it into the bottom.

Then take Greedy Gold to help the gradient between the last two colors. To push it a little further he lightly dabs the Gold onto the gradient to really give it a good sheen. Before the wash, he then takes Bright Gold and does a very focused dry brush from the top down. Finish this stage off with a wash of Mid Brown and wash the whole model that is gold.

Painting the Bases

Painting MODOK 2He starts with a simple coat of Filthy Cape and hits the whole base and the smoke. Next, he fills in the metal bits with Gun Metal. Then hits some tiles with Skeleton Bone and then a layer of Chaotic Red for the rest. Next, drybrush the whole thing with the Skeleton Bone and finish it with a wash.

Painting the Purple Metallics

Painting MODOK 3Start with Night Scales and apply it everywhere you want to be purple, just be careful to not hit the other parts of gold. Next, mix some Night Scales with Royal Purple, and hit a more focused area from the top down. On things like the top of arms, shoulder pads, etc. Then just go to Royal Purple and do this to the very top areas. He goes to a mini drybrush to finish it off and stipple it in.

To push the gradient further, he breaks out Zephyr Pink and mixes it with the Royal Purple, and does the same steps as above but is more focused. To finish it off, he goes to just Zephyr Pink and does some edge highlighting and a very small amount to the uppermost areas.

Painting the Smoke and Other Effects

Painting MODOK 4Start with Mars Red and hit all the little glowing spots, like the headband and brake lights. This takes a little time so be patient. Next, take some Matt Black and hit the buckle and anywhere else you want to be black. Break out the airbrush for this next part, but be very careful! He puts a white in it and does a very small radial highlight in the red and black areas.

Now switch back to the white and hit some little reflective points with the white. Back to the airbrush to finish off the red parts. He Does an even smaller radial point with Lava Orange to give it a glowing effect, then does the same thing for the black buckle.

Painting MODOK 5For the smoke, he starts with Daemonic Yellow to the insides of the plumes of smoke. Now go back to your Mars Red and blend that in with the yellows. Then finish that off by painting all the ridges, Ash Grey. The first highlight for the Smoke will be with Spaceship Exterior then with Matt White all in a dry brush.
