Another off-meta Warhammer 9th Edition 40k army list emerged in the US Open Orlando, check this one out!
9th Edition’s meta is still settling, but some players are taking lists with units that nobody was expecting. Check out this awesome homebrew list that emerged in a tournament over the weekend. They didn’t do too bad and just goes to show that sometimes it’s more about the general’s skill than what you play.

US Open Orlando: Brian Jones- Imperial Knights
Brian went for a single Super-Heavy Detachment of pure Imperial Knights. The first member of the list is an Armiger running Cleaver and Thermal spear. This combo provides a mobile threat with decent AP shots and a melee option if it needs to get into some enemy lines.
Speaking of getting into enemy lines, the next member is a Knight Lancer, who is almost completely dedicated to melee and is really good at it too. It does come with a hint of range, but it is a completely melee-focused model and will dominate most low-model units in melee uncontested.
Getting to about the halfway point there are 3 Knight Moirax.
Each Moirax has the same loadout, double lightning lock. These are simple weapons with ok stats, at the end of the day, these just serve as the extra volume of shots to help take down units for the Lancer to have a clear path.
Finishing the list is 2 Knight Magaera. These have Rad-cleanser and Claws for decent shooting and stompy level melee, being pretty effective in both whenever you need them to be.
Overall this list offers a unique approach, but we like it because of their all-in on an aspect of their faction in a response to the meta. Knights are especially nice because some lists have a really hard time taking down all of these high durability models.
Even better they got decent results from the player who piloted it! It’s also very encouraging when a player is able to play a previously widely considered “underpowered” army or list style so effectively.
What do you think about this homebrew 40k army list from last weekend that caught our eye?
