Giga-Bites RTT: Top 40k Homebrew Army List

40k-homebrew-army-listsA unique Cadian list grabs a spot behind the best armies as a new homebrew Warhammer 40k army list emerged at the Giga-Bites RTT!

9th Edition’s meta is again in flux, but some players take lists with units that nobody expected. Check out this awesome homebrew list that emerged in a tournament over the weekend. This shows us that sometimes it’s more about the general’s skill than what you play.

Thanks to Best Coast Pairings, we can look back at the event as if we were all there ourselves.

If you wanted to see the names and factions of the overall winners, we’ve included that below.

However, we aren’t covering all those lists. Instead, we will look at just one of our favorites this week.

Giga-Bites RTT: David Purcell – Astra Militarum 7th Place

First and foremost, this is a sweet list, and while 7th place with two wins doesn’t say a lot about this list’s potential, the unit choices and army construction are simply dope.

David’s Astra Militarum is a BRIGADE of Cadians, something we rarely see! The list is headed by Coteaz, Pask, Castellan Creed, a Primaris Psyker, and two Tank Commanders. Coteaz is a unique model offering some psychic support and some anti-stratagem and anti-reinforcements rules just to add a little layer of annoyance to your opponent’s plans.

Pask and Creed are both Militarum all-stars with great abilities to support the list, and Pask even brings a tank (being inside)! The Psyker is simply another layer of Psychic support, while the two tank commanders bring in the only real other armored threats and some extra support abilities.

Troops for Guard are usually simple, and this is no different. 60 Conscripts for big blobs of bodies, 27 Guardsmen for some extra shots down range, and 5 Scions to bolster your infantry lines with a few slightly more elite bodies.

David Purcell 3

Elites have an Astropath, which adds even more psychic support, along with 8 Vets for more bodies and options. Three Platoon Commanders add a few more officers with some extra ‘oomph in their loadouts. There are also three Wyrdvane Psykers for more powers and a Tech-priest to heal the very few vehicles on this list.

Fast Attacks bring in the last tiny touch of armor in 3 Sentinels, but these are mobility pieces, not traditional armor-threats with huge hard-hitting ranged weapons.

Finally, the list closes with 9 Mortars to add some much-needed long-range and blast shots to help with chaff down range.

Hopefully, we continue to see some diversity like this in the 40k meta going forward!
