Painting OSL Light Effects: Galharen Miniatures Painting Tutorial

Galharen has some amazing hobby content, and if you need some sweet tips, you should follow him to get up on all your painting and conversion techniques.

In this painting tutorial, he shows how to paint OSL quickly and easily. It’s a pretty neat way to get an excellent effect that will really make your miniatures stand out from the rest.

This is a quicker video than normal, but that doesn’t make it any less cool!

Painting OSL Light Effects: Galharen Tutorial for Miniatures

painting osl 2He’s already painted the rest of the mini, so the only thing left to do is paint the hammer! He starts with a white undercoat.

Step 1:

painting osl 3To start, he sprays a smaller white halo on the handle and hammer where he wants the light actually to be coming from. Next, he mixes Plasmatic Bolt and Sapphire Blue in a 50/50 mix and a little bit of airbrush thinner. He then sprays that mix on the bottom of the lighting and slowly moves towards the top, i.e., where it would naturally be darker.

Step 2:

painting osl 4Now he moves to just Plasmatic Bolt and sprays this more towards the top, but also blends the other mix with it too.

Step 3:

painting osl 5He starts by edge highlighting all the areas with white and then does a wash of white on the entire hammer to really bring out the contrast. Finally, he cleans off the excess with some white spirit.
