The Secret To Why GW Priced The New Steel Legion Models so High

RIP-Steel-legion-goneThis may be the secret to why GW priced the MTO Steel Legion models so high, and when you look at it, it’s hard to deny.

Back in the day, these models were cheap (compared to today), but in the latest MTO offering, the prices are as high as we’ve ever seen. However, it is nice to be able to order these models as a new product (still in metal even.)

With that in mind, we expected them to be a little more expensive than usual; however, the prices did surprise us a bit.  So how could Games Workshop justify such seemingly high prices?

When these came out, the Plasma Gunner was about $15 for two models, and the Officer was under $10 if we remember correctly. Sure, everything has been rising in cost lately, but how could GW land on these specific prices?

It’s On eBay?

GW Priced Steel Legion Models so HighIt could be because they are selling for almost identical prices on eBay! Perhaps GW looked at what people are willing to pay and opted for similar pricing?

You can see from the screencaps above ended listings are very close to the new MTO prices GW has listed for the Steel Legion models.

Like we said before, who wouldn’t rather have something in brand new condition instead of used? Especially when the prices are nearly the same!

However, with a single plasma gunner selling for almost $35, and three lascannons for over $100, we imagine the customer base for this offering is pretty tiny.

We’ll have to see if GW keeps up with the secondary market for their MTO offerings, but we hope not, as the prices could get crazy before too long.

Do you think GW monitors the secondary market to set their MTO prices on re-releases?
