GW Reveals New AoS Stormcast & Skaven Models For 4th Edition

AOS Age of Sigmar Lord-Vigilant on Gryph-stalker skaventide new models

GW has revealed the first new AoS models for 4th Edition, for the Skaven and Stormcast that are coming in the Skaventide starter set box.

The hype for the upcoming 4th Edition of Age of Sigmar is real, and it’s not just because of the promise of exciting new rules; it also means new models to add to your collection!  Let’s take a look at the first official Skaven and Stormcast miniatures for the 4th Edition of Age of Sigmar that will be released first in the Skaventide Starter Set.

GW Reveals New AoS Stormcast & Skaven Models For 4th Edition Skaventide Starter Set

Here is the latest on the first models for 4th Edition AoS from Warhammer Community.

First AoS Model For 4th Edition

The Liberators are a group of courageous warriors who have been fighting for Sigmar’s cause since the beginning of the Realmgate Wars (i.e AoS first edition.) They are seen donning shining Sigmarite armor, and their preferred weapons are shields and warhammers.

These weapons not only help them defend themselves but also allow them to launch bone-shattering counterattacks against their enemies.

This edition features a much sleeker look for the Liberators. GW is trying to move them away from chunkier armor and into this new style, just like they did with the Vindicators.

First AoS Model For 4th Edition 2

This new Liberator wears the sleek thunderstrike armour first seen on the spear-wielding Vindictors from the Dominion box.

If you really loved that CHONKY look from 2015 until now, you had better get them sooner rather than later. From the looks of this, the new Liberator style will replace the old designs quickly once 4th Edition drops.

Just like the upgrade from Firstborn to Primaris, this new Liberator looks great and gives us a look into what we can expect in 4th Edition!

New Skaven & Stormcast Size Comparisons

Skaven Models 4th Edition AoS 6

The existing plastic Clanrats are venerable artefacts from the World-that-Was, and it’s finally time for the backbone of the Skaven military to get the update they deserve. They still keep their classic hunched posture and raggedy equipment, rendering the sorry state of your rank and file in better detail than they’ve ever seen before.

They are about the same size as the old ones and still seem slightly more hunched, but they are obviously way smaller than the new Stormcast!

Skaventide Description:

The new starter will come with 74 models (24 Stormcast and 50 Skaven), all the accessories you need, the cards, The General’s Handbook, and the rulebook.

The box is divided into two sides, coming in at 1,200 points. There are 24 Stormcast Eternals and 50 Skaven miniatures at a price of around $3.58 a model.

Here is a breakdown of the miniatures you get inside unit by unit.

In Skaventide, the fearless and noble Stormcast Eternals of the revered Hallowed Knights Stormhost have been dispatched to the treacherous Gnaw in Aqshy to confront the relentless Skaven threat.

Lord-Vigilant on Gryph-stalker

4th Edition AoS Starter Set MiniaturesThe Lord-Vigilant commands a formidable alliance comprising warriors from the esteemed Warrior and Ruination chambers of the revered Stormcast Eternals. She rides into battle astride a steadfast Gryph-stalker, bearing a revered great axe that gleams with hallowed power.

Knight-Questor

4th Edition AoS Starter Set Miniatures

While the majority of Stormcast Lords and Knights are bound by the weighty responsibilities of command, a select few emerge as solitary champions, journeying across the diverse realms.

Each Knight-Questor is summoned to the majestic throne of the God-King Sigmar and entrusted with a sacred quest, whether it be the recovery of an ancient relic or the vanquishing of an adversary’s general.

Although they do not belong to the Ruination chambers, they are among the rare Stormcasts permitted to beseech aid from these soul-afflicted powerhouses in order to carry out their divinely ordained mission.

Lord-Veritant

4th Edition AoS Starter Set Miniatures

Each Lord-Veritant is meticulously chosen for their unwavering and visceral loathing of Chaos, an emotion that eclipses all others. Armed with a blade wreathed in righteous flames and a staff of abjuration that breaks curses, they are accompanied by a faithful Gryph-crow companion.

Together, they venture into the darkest and most sinister corners of the Mortal Realms, tirelessly purging corruption by vanquishing sorcerers and heretics.

Lord-Terminos

4th Edition AoS Starter Set Miniatures

In the dimly lit Ruination chambers, the figure of Lord-Terminos looms large and imposing. Wielding the formidable blade terminos, they stride across the battlefield with unmatched precision, swiftly dispatching the enemies of Sigmar.

These solitary warriors also hold the solemn responsibility of conducting the rites of the Last Threshold, solemnly severing the heads of soul-stricken Stormcast Eternals who willingly embrace oblivion. Accompanying them are the loyal Memorian squires, tasked with recounting their noble battle achievements and ensuring their connection to the present remains steadfast.

Stormcast Liberators

new sigmar models liberators

Games Workshop went on to reveal the whole Liberators unit on social media and also previewed their new rules and how Warscrolls are changing in a Warhammer Community Article.

New Liberators Warscroll Changes

4th Edition AoS Battlescrolls 2

Despite this change to unit abilities, the information contained on a new warscroll is actually mostly very similar to previous iterations.

Here are some key changes:

  • Move: remains unchanged
  • Health: is the current Wounds stat, but it has been changed for clarity purposes
  • Save: remains unchanged
  • Control: replaces Bravery and serves as a measure of a unit’s ability to hold Objectives. A unit’s Control Score is the sum of this characteristic of all models in the unit that are contesting an objective.

Now, like in 40k, everything a unit can do above the normal baseline is called abilities. A big change is that wounds are changing to health; they say this is because people might get confused by wounds.  The keywords are still listed at the bottom, and all weapon options for other abilities are included.

4th Edition AoS Battlescrolls 3

In the new edition of the game, weapons have undergone some subtle changes but still function in a similar way. In melee combat, five key attributes, namely Attacks, Hit, Wound, Rend, and Damage, have been rebalanced to reflect better each unit’s miniatures, lore, and battlefield role.

The universal weapon ability, Crit (Mortal), allows Liberators to deal significant damage for basic infantry by turning Critical Hits into Mortal Damage. Although missile weapons still have a Range, it is generally reduced. However, the new edition allows every model to fight within a 3″ combat range in melee, simplifying pile-ins and combat resolution.

It only makes sense that they balanced the weapon profiles so nothing is too out of place. However, the biggest change is range. You no longer have to worry about what weapons have what range; everyone can fight within 3″.

Compared to the Old Warscroll

Liberators Warscroll(Old Warscroll)

Compared to the old Warscroll, the new liberator weapons have a +1 to wound, fewer options overall, and a much different ability. However, you no longer have to worry about taking shields as they just come stock with a 3+ save.

Stormcast Reclusians Awaken

Here is the latest on the Reclusians from Warhammer Community. To keep these warriors grounded, they are joined by distant relatives called Memorians, hopefully giving them some idea of humanity and what they fight for!

Stormcast Reclusians

The Reclusians were on the verge of losing themselves completely after undergoing multiple reforgings. They had chosen to isolate themselves in quiet reflection to prevent this. However, the current situation requires their intervention.

Despite the risks involved, they were undaunted in battle and could withstand even the harshest battlefields. Lightning cleansed their souls, shielding them from the corrupting effects of Chaos.

These new models look pretty amazing, and the lore behind them is also great! The idea of coming back to life so many times that it will eventually take away any humanity you once had is rather bold, and these models are definitely on the brink!

Stormcast ReclusiansThe gift of immortality, once a blessing, has now become a curse, causing them to gradually lose their humanity. As a result, they tend to forget their past, including their friends, relatives, place of origin, and even their own battle-scarred histories.

Moreover, some of them may experience strange supernatural occurrences, speak with thunderous voices, or lose the ability to dream of a better life.

With so much experience, we expect them to be super strong in the game with plenty of abilities and damage output.

Stormcast Reclusians

When the Reclusians take up arms, they are accompanied by mortal priests called Memorians, often direct descendants of the Stormcast Eternals themselves.

The Memorians are really cool-looking attendants and add a lot of character to the unit!

Reworked Stormcast Prosecutors

Stormcast Eternals ProsecutorsThe Prosecutors are vengeful hunters of Sigmar who have been given a new, slick design for the latest edition. Although they have been around for a long time, they now have flame-like wings, replacing their old sunburst design. Their weapons have also been reworked, with new crested helmets, elegant javelins, and sturdy circular shields.

Stormcast Eternals Prosecutors 2

Some Stormcaste can be rescued from their doomed state. However, their Reforgings can be quite traumatic, and many Prosecutors have been reassigned to the Ruination Chamber due to numerous compromised Reforgings. In this new location, they are outfitted with Thunderstrike armor, which allows them to break through the darkened skies of death.

Stormcast Eternals Prosecutors 3

The new models look pretty wild, and while they don’t have flight stands, they have giant pillars on which to stand!

Stormcast Eternals Prosecutors 4They definitely have a different feel from the previous miniatures, but if you want to crash down from the skies, they are for you!

New Prosecutors Rules

Stormcast Eternals Prosecutors 5

Certain units have a natural resistance to magical attacks, but the Ruination Chamber ability can cancel out almost any targeted enemy ability except for Attacks. Although the armor of Ruination Chamber units is often strong enough to withstand most attacks, this ability can still be very powerful.

However, it can only be used once per turn for each army, which encourages players to use mixed lists to make the most of it.

Stormcast Eternals Prosecutors 6

Rolling an extra dice on the charge is just awesome! Rolling three dice should give you an average of 10.5″, and a max of 18″ which is pretty wild!

Skaventide: First Official Skaven Models For 4th Edition AoS!

While we’ve already given a glimpse of the Clanrats, Warlock Engineer, and Warplock Jezzails, there’s more to come – and these new additions are set to be formidable forces on the battlefield.

Clawlord on Gnaw-beast

New Skaven Models

New Skaven Models

As the rulers of the Verminus Clans, the Clawlords hold dominion over the vast tides of Skaven soldiery that form the core of the Great Horned Rat’s armies. These formidable leaders have ascended to their positions through a combination of ruthless violence and strategic cunning.

Many of them exhibit exceptional valor and prowess, surpassing the typical abilities of the Skaven. Those who achieve particular renown or secure a favor from the Clans Moulder may even ride into battle atop terrifying Gnaw-beasts – mutated verminkind with hyperactive metabolisms that drive them into relentless feeding frenzies.

Grey Seer

New Skaven Models

The enigmatic Grey Seers hold the peculiar distinction of serving as the prophets of the Great Horned Rat and as covert operatives of the Masterclan, exerting their influence over Skaven society through increasingly intricate schemes and, by their own account, entirely altruistic guidance.

New Skaven ModelsPossessing a unique natural aptitude for magic, they conjure storms of warp lightning that not only serve as a potent display of power but also help to rationalize why other Skaven Clans tolerate their ceaseless manipulations. Yet, the profound paranoia that permeates all Grey Seers is channeled into meticulous contingency planning, ensuring that their schemes are thoroughly safeguarded.

Ratling Warpblaster

4th Edition AoS Starter Set MiniaturesThe Skaven’s long-standing tradition of infighting between the Clans has led to the development of a fearsome weapon by the Clan Skryre. This weapon is specifically engineered to swiftly annihilate large groups of infantry.

With its remarkable firing rate, this rolling field gun can effortlessly decimate countless mortal foes.

Rat Ogors

New Skaven Models

4th Edition AoS Starter Set Miniatures

The Rat Ogors, towering and grotesque, are the prized creations of the Clans Moulder. They are the result of a dark and nefarious process that melds rodent and ogor bodies using mysterious cryptosorcery and the corrupting influence of warpstone.

These monstrous beings are infused with poisonous concoctions and unleashed onto the battlefield with no more than primal instincts and an unrelenting hunger driving their savage violence.

They mercilessly rend mortal warriors limb from limb and lay waste to entire regiments with the scorching emerald torrents unleashed by their warpfire guns.

Clan Rats

Skaven Models 4th Edition AoS

The life of a Clanrat is extremely hard as they are low-ranking soldiers of the Great Clans, and life is tough for the high-ranking rats! These soldiers are just one small part of a larger group of fierce creatures that have sharp teeth, claws, and matted fur.

While they do not possess exceptional fighting skills or courage as individuals, they can still be lethal in large numbers. They are armed with old and rusty weapons and wear ragged clothes. Despite their shortcomings, they can overpower larger enemies by swarming them with stabbing blades.

Clanrats are a staple of almost every Skaven army, so it only makes sense to see them get a rework!

Skaven Models 4th Edition AoS 2

In the Skaven army, there are some soldiers who behave erratically and need to be kept under control. However, it’s common to see Skaven with above-average bravery and ambition become champions, musicians, and banner bearers in order to motivate their fellow soldiers. It’s unclear how they managed to create musical instruments amidst the chaos of battle.

The new models look great while keeping that awesome Skaven appeal.

Skaven Models 4th Edition AoS 3

Clanrats do not have a standardized uniform, and instead, they gather whatever weapons and shields they can find.

Their wooden fortifications are not very reliable and can easily fall apart when hit by a powerful enemy like a Stormcast Eternal. However, since Skaven soldiers have a very low survival rate on the frontline, they eagerly seek any opportunity to deflect an accidental arrow or sword blow.

Skaven Models 4th Edition AoS 4They seem to have many options, and compared with the older models, they also appear to be much more dynamic.

Skaven Models 4th Edition AoS 5

In fact, if anything unites Skaven Clanrats at all, it’s their overall shabby appearance. But what incredible models they are nonetheless!

If you play Skaven (or want to), the new edition of Sigmar is looking to be the one for you with the reveals for Skaventide.

Snipe Stormcast With the New AoS Skaven Warlock Engineer!

This new AoS Skaven Warlock Engineer will let you snipe off characters in 4th Edition while combining magic and tech in one package!

AoS Skaven Warlock Engineer

The Warlock Engineer is a highly skilled sniper of the Skaven army. The Engineer uses warpstone-infused bullets and a warlock musket to take down enemy characters from a safe distance. The warplock musket is a deadly weapon, capable of delivering two shots at D3 Damage and 2 Rend, and can auto-wound on a critical hit. The Engineer can further enhance the musket’s power using the reaction ability “More-More Warp Energy,” which grants it a flat 3 Damage for the turn if shot without moving. However, due to the nature of Skaven devices, there is always a risk that they may malfunction.

The new model looks amazing and can snipe enemy characters from afar, giving you a true Skaven feel. Plus, the range finder is a valuable asset in the Mortal Realms.

New Skaven Jezzails Blow Away the Competition in AoS

Skaven Jezzails

Skaven are known for using lethal warpstone in battle, which they have employed since the earliest days of Warhammer. To launch their toxic shots at their enemies, Jezzail teams have collaborated for decades in an unusual display of teamwork.

One member of the team acts as a sniper, while the other serves as a supportive shoulder. This allows them to effectively deliver scorching hot lumps of poison to their targets.

Skaven Jezzails 2

Skaven hold long-range warfare in high regard as it allows them to minimize the risk of personal harm (because what rat wants to be fighting from the front?).

The Jezzail gunners use a power pack that contains highly-pressurized warpstone gas. As the gas is pumped into the weapon’s long barrel, it solidifies into shards, making it deadly for far-off enemies.

Skaven Jezzails 3

The new models keep the feel of the old ones but with tons of updated details.

When you combine this with the Engineer’s rule to snipe off enemy characters, they are a serious force to be reckoned with! It will be a bad time for any enemy characters to fight against the Skaven.
