1st Place: Jack Murphy – Astra Militarum / Imperial Guard Army Lists
At Everwinter, Jack’s Astra Militarum army reminded everyone why the Guard are the Emperor’s hammer. With a perfect mix of grit, firepower, and cunning, Jack’s list marched to victory and left the battlefield littered with the debris of crushed opposition.
Combining legendary characters, elite troops, and a lone (but very explosive) vehicle, this list was as versatile as it was devastating. Let’s break down how Jack’s army proved that sometimes, overwhelming discipline and firepower are all you need to win the day.
Jack’s leadership roster was a who’s-who of Astra Militarum greatness. Two Death Korps of Krieg Marshals brought battlefield command and the iconic grit of Krieg to keep the troops motivated (or at least too terrified to run). And then there was Gaunt’s Ghosts—a legendary lone operative who didn’t just embody the Guard’s indomitable spirit but also brought some sneaky firepower to the list.
Sly Marbo, the Guard’s answer to an action movie protagonist, joined in with his explosive antics, sneaking onto the battlefield and causing absolute chaos wherever he went. Three Tempestus Command Squads rounded out the leadership team, delivering orders while wielding enough special weapons to give any foe a very bad day. These squads ensured that no part of Jack’s force lacked firepower or direction.
Ursula Creed was the tactical mastermind, generating Command Points and delivering extra orders like a boss.
Jack’s troop choices were a smorgasbord of the Astra Militarum’s finest. A single unit of Cadian Shock Troops provided reliable, no-nonsense infantry, while two squads of Catachan Jungle Fighters added raw aggression and combat knives that could cut through an Ork Waaagh!
The Death Korps of Krieg brought their stoic determination to the mix, while four units of Tempestus Scions added elite firepower and a touch of finesse.
This diverse mix of troops ensured that Jack’s army could handle any battlefield scenario, whether holding objectives, pushing forward, or gunning down priority targets.
The lone vehicle in Jack’s list was a Cyclops Demolition vehicle—a small but incredibly explosive addition. This unit wasn’t here to hold the line or soak up fire; it was here to blow up whatever Jack pointed it at. It’s the kind of unit that makes opponents second-guess getting too close—and then regret it when they do.
Jack’s list closed out with some of the best elite infantry the Guard has to offer. Three units of Kasrkin brought pinpoint accuracy and devastating firepower, making them a nightmare for enemy elites and vehicles alike. These storm troopers are the sharp edge of the Guard’s sword, and they performed that role to perfection.
Finally, a single unit of Tempestus Aquilons rounded out the army, delivering more elite firepower with deep strike capabilities. These soldiers combined durability, mobility, and firepower, ensuring that Jack’s army always had a solution to whatever the enemy threw at them.
