Tyranids Rumors and 2013 Release Schedule?

By Rob Baer | March 3rd, 2013 | Categories: Tyranids, Warhammer 40k, Warhammer 40k Rumors

This is why sometimes I like to let the rumor dogs lie so to speak. While there has been a lot of chatter about an upcoming Tyranids release, these two completely contradictory reports were posted earlier in the week.

I’m sure we all hope (know) bugs will be getting a re-do here shortly (along with Tau, Eldar, and quite possibly Templars), but it’s still a toss up which will be first.

My predictions based off of nothing but gut feelings, and a close following of GW’s trends of the last ten plus years says Eldar in the fall, and either Tau or Templars somewhere before or after.

Xenos races do sell.  However Tyranids while not played as much right now on the “pro ciruit”, don’t IMHO need a new book to be “current” in Sixth Edition like Tau or even Templars (who are both two editions behind).

Plus I hate to say it guys but from a business standpoint, Nids only really need a couple models kits to be complete, but the other races would require more models kits, and thusly generate more revenue.

Also there has been a trend to release two Astartes books in the same year, and they just may need to this year to keep profits up, as all reports and rumors point to Warhammer Fantasy being on life-support sales wise.

We have also hearing the rumors that Fantasy may get a re-boot one year early this year as well because of their sluggish sales to date. So my summer release prediction is either Warhammer Fantasy 9th Edition OR the Apocalypse reboot.

The Apocalypse reboot doesn’t seem too far fetched to me because as of late GW has been listing more and more bundle deals on their site (which always seem to be at full retail).

Regardless maybe that is a sort of case study for the viability of bringing back the old 2007/’08 Apocalypse bundle deals (and making them seem like a value over their normal offerings).

Speaking of Apocalypse the BIG GAME III will be happening at Spikey Bits on March 16th, so if you can make it to the Richmond VA area, we’d love to have you be part of the East Coast BIG GAME!

That’s all my ramblings for now, checkout my 2012 predictions if you got a hot minute and see how they stacked up to the actual releases.

Maybe next time we’ll talk about these new direct only compilation books, like Death from the Skies and see what they are doing to “fill” the gaps between releases for GW. -MBG

Earlier today I received an email that the next White Dwarf (April’s edition/ released in March) was seen, and in it, Tyranids were spotted. Exactly what it was that was seen is still a mystery, but its still exciting to think that our favorite bugs might just be next for some sort of an update or release.

Please note that this is a rumor, and that this email’s content was edited for posting.

A Tyranid codex is being worked on, and it looks like it will be sometime next year at the earliest. This does not mean that there will not be any updates for our favorite bugs before hand,  but that a codex is at least a sometime around a year+ away.

Please remember that these are rumors. Salt is always required.

*Tyranids are coming. Probably after Orks sometime next year.
*Carnifexes are getting a big boost
*Deepstriking emplacements for shooting and increasing synapse ranges
*A new Spider-like Pysker Monstrous Creature
*Background being expanded with some sort of connection between the old ones and C’tan being worked on.
